Someone sending him strobe light pics again?

I think it is absolutely INSANE that you can be charged with a crime for sending a strobe light to someone.

May god have mercy upon my enemies, because I won’t.

What if I knew you had a terrible peanut allergy and sprinkled some crushed peanuts on your food when you weren’t looking?
Crime or no crime?

That is not comparable to sending a gif to someone.

Yes it is. I cause you to come into contact with a stimulus I know has a unique, debilitating effect on you.

Holy false equivalence Batman!

If flashing gifs and other images cause dangerous seizures, he should stay off the internet because it is littered with tons of those visual land mines.

I think it’s goofy, but it fits the definition of assault

It’s not a cop out. It’s true. I think it’s lame, but it fits the definition. I don’t know what you want me to say.

I understand this line of thinking, but let me ask you this: do you think it should be a crime if someone were to wait outside of an epileptic indovidual’s house with a real strobe light? What about mailing a strobe light in a package to that house? I don’t know that you can separate the email thing from these other actions in today’s world.
I think the issue we run into is that many of us started using the internet when it was truly anonymous. That was before the e-commerce revolution, social media, etc.. In today’s world the line between our “online” selves and “real life” selves is blurring to the point that there’s very little distinction. I think the sooner we accept that reality the better off we will all be (this goes for social media and message boards as well). Especially when you look at the history of personal data being stolen from corporations.. it’s not the same internet it was 20 years ago.
TL;DR: If a guy with epilepsy is walking through Times Square you still can’t run up to him and stick a strobe light in his face without legal consequences. In 2018, don’t do/say anything online that you wouldn’t do/say in your real life.
