Need to start enacting laws requiring employers to maintain that 90% of their workforce must be US citizens or something like that. Also IRS needs to start cracking down on people hiring illegals and hiding it by paying them cash.

Stop hiring aliens for unskilled labor jobs that a US citizen could do. Unless the immigrant is some kind of thermodynamic nuclear scientist, we don't need them. Would decrease illegal immigration and unemployment.

You'd never get any work done like that.

Company doesn't avoid taxes by paying illegals cash. Cash has to come from somewhere. As a business owner if I give cash to illegals I have to account for it. If paying a legit business expense I have to provide details. Otherwise I am committing fraud by making up some phony receipts. Not hard to do once or twice but to make up phony receipts/expenses to coverall daily pay for 1, 2, 3, 4+ people becomes a nightmare. No way a company doing this can pass any kind of audit. The penalties for hiring illegals is nowhere near the penalties for tax fraud.

One of the line items in the budget deal Trump signed 2 weeks ago was for work site inspections/audit by ICE. The funding for work site visits was cut. Means less ICE checking for illegals in the field.

Bottom line is there are laws on the books that cover this stuff already. Just very little enforcement.

Are you familiar with FICA taxes?

ETA: as for the cash having to come from somewhere, it usually comes from cash inflows. This shite is rampant in small businesses.

Why not just ban the employment of illegal aliens?

Oh, that's right, because there's already a law for that. So we don't enforce the law on the books, yet you think creating another law is the way to go?

You liberals kill me.

Why not just prosecute the CRIMINALS currently breaking the law? Probably because they're mostly Republican businessmen.

If you really want to get into the details then let's give it a shot. The overwhelming majority of illegal unemployment is by small businesses. Most of them are sole proprietorships or LLCs.

If a sole propietorship or an LLC does not have legit expenses to offset cash outlays they aren't deductible from taxes. Therefore, at the end of the year, if you can't show expenses to offset expenditures, that money is effectively taxed at whatever rate the owner or the LLC partners are at when they file their taxes.

Once again, I am not talking about a guy hired for a day or two a few times a year. We are talking about systematic and long term hiring of illegals as part of your business. In order to do this either the owners are taking the hit on their personal taxes and getting hit at their effective PERSONAL income tax rate OR they have to commit fraud in order to expense the cash outlay. Like I said, a couple of days here or there and not a problem. 3, 4, 5+ people making $10 an hour means $60K, $80K, $100K that there are no offsetting expenses for on your personal taxes. You start making up fraudulent receipts for this amount year after year and you are in a shitload of trouble with the IRS at some point.

If you have a small business 5-10 employees try pulling out $80K to $100K cash to pay them and let me know how it works out for you personally on your taxes. The only way you can do this is by committing or allowing fraud. My point was there are laws on the books for this. Whether employment laws or tax laws, they can be enforced. They are not. We really don't need new laws.

I believe it is because asking for the information required to enforce the law was declared discriminatory.

You can’t pay people to live here and complain about immigration. That’s the problem.

Why not just ban them all? We don't need aliens working as teachers, factory workers, cab drivers, restaurant staff, etc. This is a nation of hundreds of millions of Americans and we have people out of work. Send the aliens back to their home country, and employ our people.

Also not a liberal.

And I don't care if it's a Republican businessman hiring illegals and breaking the law, go after them and stop it.
