I think what they mean when they say that is that it contradicts the general theory of how they believe the universe works.
It was previously believed that dark matter held the galaxies together. Now that they found one with very little dark matter, that previous theory needs to be reworked.
It absolutely blows my mind at how big the universe is. There are over 200 billion galaxies. Each with billions of stars and trillions of planets.
Add to that the fact that Andromeda (the closest galaxy to us) is still 2.5 million light years from the Milky Way
WTF. It really makes you feel small.

Yeah, I get that. I'm probably reading too much into what he said.
I guess if it were me, I'd probably say something like "this goes against everything we believed to this point" or something similar.
I'm just nit-picking the semantics.

So, if dark matter is invisible, and no one has ever seen it, or for that matter, measured it (since it's a theory) how can they know with certainty that it's gone? Better check to see if their federal Grant is about to expire. Yes? Okay... now I understand.

I’m not sure any claim to have all of the answers and if they do it’s in error, the best we can achieve is to say current understanding fits observations. When that ceases to be the case then our models need to change.
