Does anyone have experience getting fallout 3 to work on the newer versions of Windows?
I bought it from steam and it won't boot up

Do other games work with 7+?
ETA I can't open the links at work, but I did a google search and saw a lot of instructional sites and videos on how to get it to work.

I've tried the nexus download thing, running in compatibility, and editing the ini file. Most of those fixes are from a while back and I think something must've changed
I also bought it out of a bargain bin a few years ago for PS3 and it wouldn't work but I brought it back too late to get my money back
I'll probably buy it for Xbox this time
ETA: yes this is the only game on steam that doesn't work for me

What version of Windows? I had to edit the start up parameters on steam and never had a problem after.

Should be an option in Steam to run it in compatibility mode. Somewhere in the game settings. I don't remember having any trouble running it on Windows 10 though.

Huh? I don't remember having to do this for Fallout 3, but I have had to do it for a handful of Games for Windows Live titles that for whatever reason still reside on Steam yet haven't had the Windows Live requirement stripped out.

Don’t get it from steam. Get it from gog. At least every review on steam of it I’ve ever read has said not to get it from them.
So go get a refund from steam
