I think we'll have a great defense this year, but I personally feel like Coach O focuses too much on one player and if that player goes elsewhere, then he doesn't have much of a plan B.

I think this is my point. O passed on some other guys because he was counting on Surtain and it will hurt us with depth in the future...

That equates to QB recruit fear in March???

This makes no sense. Your panties are chafing you because we lost 2 potential recruits on signing day.
Coach O, imo, doesn't focus on A guy but on A position(s). He did a great job on DL and OL (weakness last year). Gunnel would be a stellar catch but we are in a good position currently at QB. Every class needs a decent QB recruit, I agree. Let it play out before you scream FIRE.....unless you are simply one of the O haters because it's chic!

One instant was surtain, man let that go he called coach at 10:00 the night before.

Why do people keep saying this? We know what happened. That's recruiting.

What's surprising is that O let himself get played like that since he's a recruiting veteran. He shouldn't let anyone take him down to the 11th hour without a backup plan secured.

Gunnell backup plan

The point is, we didn't put all of our eggs in just Robert Lane. We kept recruiting. First with Matt Flynn then with JaMarcus. It was trying to get the best talent together, convince the QBs that were receptive, and then let the competition play itself out.

I don't have any way to prove this, but after seeing Surtain and now Gunnell play out, it seems like O may think that maybe we won't get Gunnell if we begin seriously courting another QB.

If that's the case, that's ridiculous. I don't know why seemingly all of the attention has to be spent on Gunnell. He knows we want him badly, and we could use two QBs in this class anyway. At some point we have to hedge our bets. We're being too desperate.
It's gonna be hard to recruit ANY QB with 3 young QB's in the fold already. I feel sure some of them feel there must be greener grasses rather than try & unseat a RS freshman , along with another QB already here that is a Jr. I think, much less the guy who has been given the starting nod as a sophomore QB . It's asking a lot of a QB who will have to come in cold, and possibly wait his turn for 2 or 3 years.

We won't need a backup plan for Gunnell, he's coming. Count on it.

Why do people act like Mario Goodrich was going to help as a true freshman?

Orgeron seemed to think so. That's why he tried to get him at the last minute.

He wasn't going to get Mario AND Surtain so he was honest with Mario. Mario bolted - I don't blame him when he had a sure thing elsewhere. Surtain got scooped last second. This is life. This program is much larger than this subject matter. We're going to be fine.

Well he could've if he'd been more selective during the early signing period, which even he admitted.

Who exactly would you have passed on in the early signing period?

Fine. Both of those guys are talented though and could play for anyone. Everyone on here who has seen Jaray talks about what a playmaker he is, and Nelson's coach says he's quicker off the ball than Devon Godchaux was at Plaquemine.
