Some of yall asked me to post a review of the Boil Boss crawfish pot cooling accessory.

Last week, I won a free sack of crawfish and a Boil Boss, courtesy of the folks who created The Crawfish App and the inventor of The Boil Boss.
I picked up the crawfish from Bayou Adventure in Lacombe this morning. 37lbs of fairly clean, very nice sized bugs with nearly zero dead-loss. Fired up the pot with some Cajunland Season.
Once the bugs finished cooking I attached the Boil Boss and cranked on the water at 12:46. The water temp was approx 220. Within 3 minutes, at 12:49 they were already sinking and the temp was down to about 200. 6 minutes later at 12:55 the water temp was 150 and all but 1 or 2 bugs were sunk all the way to the bottom.
The instructions that come with it say to stir constantly from bottom to top however I didn't do that much stirring (too busy talking and drinking with our guests!).
Overall, I'm very surprised at how well it worked compared to the ice or frozen bottle method of cooling. Works as advertised and you don't have to worry about diluting your seasoning or remembering to freeze a couple 2-liters for the next boil. I'd highly recommend it!

Well that will certainly make a mess in your yard. Nice cooler. Where did you pick that up at? Academy, Walmart, Chucky Cheese, abandoned warehouse...

Usually I just spray the outside of the pot with a hose...

Why though? I enjoy sitting around stirring the pot and drinking beer. I guess maybe if you're trying to cook them fast. Did they taste the same as letting them soak as long as you normally do (30+ min)?
The guy at the Sportsman festival booth last weekend was trying to bullshite me about temperature and the meat being overcooked even after you turn your pot off and blah blah blah. I never have a problem with mine over cooking. I don't spray the pot or anything. Just gotta know when to cut the heat. Mine never comes back to a boil.

I have a large raised deck that I boil on, so getting the yard wet isn't an issue but I can see where that could be if you boil on ground level in the yard.
I still let them soak 25 minutes. The advantages of cooling the water are two-fold. 1) drop temp to 150 to stop the cooking process and B) the hot crawfish absorb the cooler water better, and as a result the seasoning and flavor.

Just get a wort cooler and shove it down in your crawfish. It is much more efficient, huge contact area, and neat.
If you want to go thru that much trouble, the only time I worry about chilling them is when they need to spend alot of time in the soak later in the year. I cant imagine wasting the effort for March crawfish.

Dude... I won it for free. It's not like I've been staying awake at night tossing and turning, worried about a way to cool my crawfish 3 months out the year.
It was free and it did the job it claims to do. Please explain how much more effort it takes to screw it on the end if a hose and hang it around the pot. Jeez. I bet you complain when the free oxygen you breathe is only at 20.2% instead of the optimal 20.6%

I got them in the 2nd shipment. Went to the abandoned warehouse but they didn't have anymore 69's by the time I got there. Got my 37 there and had to track down the colorless man in Ponchatoula for my 69. LMAO.

Are those clips rigid like it looks or are they free to adjust

Everyone has slight variations in their own process and most will produce good crawfish. My process does not involve any cooling at all and I think mine are pretty damn good. I cook for myself and a couple other folks every year.
I have eaten them from guys who spray the pot and put ice in the water and all were good. If I used the cooling method this would prob be something I would pick up.

They're adjustable so that you can use it on any pot from 60-120qt. They also un-clip off of the hoop completely if you should need to do that for some reason.
I've seen a similar thing like this used to wash dogs... I might have to try that! Hahaha
The WOOF WASHER!

I was discussing cooking crawfish. In a thread about cooking crawfish. Specifically cooling them efficiently.
No ones complaining about shite.
Don’t be a dick, or be a dick.

Yeah, that was an overreaction. He may need an Almond Snickers.

Hey CDanjel... remember that wooden pirouge you built... it is at the epicenter of chuckee cheese land... hauled 4 guys back and forth across a flooded bayou and a pile of turkeys back on the return trip. I’ll send you some pictures!
Cooling the pot down is a good thing like the contraption
