If a company is offering this to their male employees...there shouldn't be any penalties to their job if they decide to use this benefit.
Legally they can't use that as a means to get rid of you. If, they allegedly fire you for taking a fully offered benefit, lawsuit in waiting, it was more than that and you were on a short leash in the first place.

If you can take that much time off, your very replaceable.
Or your position isn't needed, at all.

I understand it's a benefit. I'm telling you the message it sends if things go smoothly in your absence. You're looking at what's on paper and I'm looking at how that translates in reality.

If your company gave you 8 weeks in your contract they did it to be competitive. Take that shite!
Companies give things they don't really want you to take. Just like sick days. I have a lot of them but they really don't want you to use all of them.

If they can go 8 weeks without you, you're a convenience, not a necessity.
I always hear people thinking they're super important with the go to line of, "If I ever left, this place wouldn't know what to do without me." or some derivative of that line. They say that to act like they're really good at their job, but that's the mark of a really poor leader.
A true leader has his departments trained and cross trained and everyone knowing exactly what to do so that if the leader is gone for 1 day, 1 week or 8 weeks, the department can function without them...but because of them.
So while the departments may function for 8 weeks without a good leader, it doesn't mean that leader isn't a necessity for long term sustained success for that company.

as the guy who left for 8 weeks due to an honestly female related situation.

We have to use sick days and honestly 2-3 days would be the max without pissing them off.

This may be true for a department that does repetitive stuff.

Not reaching at all. If you don't understand how it looks to people who may need to trim expenses at a time in the future, you're living in fairy land.

Things couldn't go smoothly because you plan your time away in ADVANCE being that you know in 9 months you will have to leave? IF a company completely crumbles because one person is out for a couple of weeks, that's a pretty weak company structure. Steve Jobs died and Apple is still taking over the tech industry. If they can get along without him, your company would do just fine.

So we’re getting 8 weeks off and in the other thread talking about men not wanting sex. Are we developing vaginas? For fricks sake.

Exactly.
In my case, we simply don't have enough people with the same skill sets, so we hire contractors to do the plebe work while we do the harder stuff.
In my case specifically LTE-A / 5G shite. They don't grow on trees.

Eh horrible analogy. Apple is damn near running in place atm. Living off of reputation and not innovation.

What if your CFO gives a headcount of max 5 individuals in your "department."
Now if this is repetitive work, (retail, fast food, line factory) I agree with you.
However, if this is specialty work, I don't.

Who cares if they are innovating, that doesn't apply here. I referred to it as running smoothly despite losing one of the historical giants of the tech industry. Still turning huge profits without him. He had a succession plan in place. My point is still valid.
