One person was rescued and two are still missing after a tugboat sank in the Mississippi River in the Chalmette area on Monday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The tugboat capsized after a collision, the New Orleans Fire Department said, though officials did not say what the tugboat crashed into.

I’m assuming the high river is giving some of these captains fits. Hope they’re safe.

They’ll be extremely lucky if they did. The river doesn’t forgive.

I worked on the river for a while. Guy fell off a barge one day. Had a life vest on.

Got sucked under the barge and popped out a minute later on the other side. Dead as driftwood.

She’s a cruel bitch. And mean as hell when she’s high like this.

The tugboat was pulled under a ship at General Anchorage. I watched the whole thing happen and we were able to rescue the only person that surfaced, which was the Captain of the tugboat. Still no sign of the other 2 crew members. Pray for them.

there has to be more than a three man crew on that thing. i worked for Cenac towing for a few years out of high school.
We had six minimum.

depends on the size of the boat plus if you were working for Cenac you were pushing red flag barges which were required to have 2 tankerman

yes we were, but we had to make tow under way sometimes which required a few people to work the cables and ratchets.
this was around 1978

this boat here is really only required to have a capt and a deckhand.....most boats that work in the fleets have 1 capt and 2 deck hands and they crew change every 12 hours

One person was rescued from the river. You can watch the video in the article and hear someone saying someone is in the river. No actual video of the rescue tbough. It was not one of the two that went missing.

Wasn’t a co-worker. I just happened to be in the area when it happened.

But yeah...I don’t have the best of luck in being at the right place at the right time
