Does anyone have any experience with UPDS? It’s -pretty significantly- cheaper than other day schools. Is there a reason for that. Does it feed into UHigh? TIA

I've had friends who used them for several of their kids and they all seem to like it--no negative complaints, all positive. Mostly upper middle class parents, many associated with LSU. Some of the kids go on from there to the Lab School, Trinity Episcopal, or magnet programs.

No, it does not feed into the Lab School. LSU Child Care Center may give you an in, but I don't think that's guaranteed either.

My advice: go tour UPDS (and any others you're interested in). Look for/ask about teacher/pupil ratio, how discipline, meals, snacks, illnesses, changing, and potty-training are handled. Ask about what they do when a teacher is absent--do they call substitutes or do the kids get "covered" by other teachers/assistants? If you go early in the morning or late in the afternoon you can check out the types of people dropping off their kids there too.
