quote:No. Here is your problem.
Something isn't adding up correct with your math.

$5,280,000 x .10pm = $528,000 gross profit
quote:He's incurring $132,000 in additional costs, but you're saying that that will only cut his margin by 10% of that or $13,200.
$5,148,000 x .10pm = $514,800 gross profit
His gross profit will only be $396,000 not $514,800. I don't even know what you're thinking.

You said you ordered a dozen at a cost of 400,000-600,000. So we say you got 12 at 500,000 to average it out, that's a 6 million dollar order and 11,000 was added. Is that about right?

Cheaper imports????
Yes, if they want to sell competitively with the new tariffs, they will have to drop their base costs to even it out....OR they can choose not to import here...which they won't do.
You see, short term, you'll hear all the chicken little run around with their doomsday thoughts...then after time passes, you'll see the true effect of the tariffs as the mire positive side of it has time to reflect in the marketplace. And then the screams go away and America will be better for it.
I can list several examples, but just choose yourself on any issues democrats have cried about in the last year

Good, stop send American dollars to a communist nation and start getting stuff built here. In turn it will create more jobs generate more tax dollars. Why are people a so dead set against of supporting the American people?
We send billions of dollars to China it time for it to stop.

But now we are actually employing Americans as opposed to Chinaman overseas.
Bullcrap, per Fortune Magazine.
quote:
The number of American workers in the metals industry could increase by an estimated 33,464 jobs, the decrease in other industries would be more significant: an estimated 179,334 jobs. This means that the net loss could total 146,000 jobs.

If you’re getting an 11k hit on something that costs 400-600k, then that is a whopping 2-2.75% increase in costs in order to not outsource American jobs to an Asian slave pit. You honestly defeat yourself in your attempt to make it sound bad.

quote:Maybe but it's not some ridiculous increase on the overall cost, despite being substantial on the bottom line.
it's the domestic manufacturer (vertically integrated too) that's prepping him for a surcharge and they're already taking the order and advising him on lead time. sounds fishy for a few reasons. give it some thought.

This thread, with it's mental gymnastics, is fascinating.

Hell, I just wish we could get someone in congress to strike while the iron is hot on this newfound capitalistic free market bent of the democrats. Seems, there's a lot they could tackle now.

Yeah, anti-globalization is still one of the tenets of the Black Bloc and the extreme left. It's very odd to me that people can pretend this idea surfaced out of nowhere, or that they don't acknowledge their very weird bedfellows.
