Why would a Louisiana state employment exam ask me if I identify as a Conservative?

I found this extremely odd. I’m not going to go into it any further than that, but the exam had a lot of race-related questions and asked if I identified as a Conservative. It did not ask if I identified as a Liberal or democrat, only conservative.
Does anyone else find this to be a really weird question? I felt pressured to put “no” but in the end I stuck with my true feelings and said yes.

Was this for a state job or simply a state of Louisiana employment app?
If so, which test?

This was the final step in the application process for working as a state of Louisiana employee.

Can a copy of this be found somewhere? I'd be interested in seeing this if true.

They want to know if you're going to be a hard worker and possibly make all the other state employees look bad.
eta: In my current federal position the quality of my work has made a few other providers look poor by comparison, which has led to some office strife at times.

Just tell them you’re a sassy black woman and the job is yours bro.

Please tell us you took a photo of this with your phone. What agency?

You should have taken a picture of that and shared it ... it would go viral.
You need to be more specific and offer-up details if you want to be taken seriously friend.
This would be a major violation of many laws ... if they are really asking this question.

Did it ask specifically if you were conservative or did it ask how you would identify your political affiliation? Neither is okay but curious.
Edit: Nevermind.

Sorry, but I call BS.
Unless you mean employment in the state of Louisiana, in which case it's still odd but at least legal.
But typically Louisiana state employment means the state government. That generally means civil service. Where such a question would be illegal. And it might be true for an unclassified position, but then you would not be taking an exam.
So again, I think you are making this up OR more likely you are misunderstanding something.

A quick Google search (I’m no attorney) shows that political party preference isn’t considered a discriminatory factor in hiring in Louisiana:
State laws on employment-related discrimination
From an ethical standpoint, however, as an employer, I’d certainly refrain from asking political questions.

Red flag.
They shouldn’t be asking anything about politics.
If you don’t get the job, you may have an employment suit you can file over this.

I mean, you can believe whatever the frick you want. I actually came close to not posting this because it’s a public board, but it honestly bothered me. It was not a civil service employment test. CS tests typically are given at the beginning of the hiring process which I’ve already taken.

And you may not know, but classified (part of the civil service system) or unclassified (higher level positions, political appointments, colleges and universities)?
I can come up with a few reasons it might be asked of unclassified (but why the test?). No reason for this to be asked of classified applicants.
It's times like these I wish we had a private message system. If true as portrayed, this is huge deal.

I might be able to post more details about the exam once I talk to someone at the agency I’m applying for. I wasn’t given any directive not to talk about the exam. I’ll post in this thread if I get the ‘OK’

So if it is unclassified, it's not illegal per se. If it is for a higher level position or political appointment, well it's dumb, but understandable. Part of those jobs include loyalty and political discretion. Still, to actually put it on paper is just sloppy. They should figure that out on their own.
If it's higher education, well that is a different story. Why the hell would they need to know that?
