I need to backfill a marsh area that stays wet. I need some ideas to dredge the canal and build up the marsh without renting a barge with an excavator. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This sounds expensive, do you have permits yet?

You have no idea what you’re attempting to get yourself into, do you?

I guess you would have to rig up some sort of rake or heavy bucket on a chain. Sort of like a bike that you peddle or drive with a motor. The rake(s) would follow the path of the chain around the gears at the peddle part and the other end sticking way out and lowered into the canal.

???? Probably illegal but that wasn't the question.

No just kinda started thinking about this project. The canal is silted in so I figured it might be a good idea

Where is the camp located? Do you own the property? Is the canal private or public?

LAfourche parish. Own the property on both side of the canal.

Any minute now, TENFOE will come in here and tell you to give him a call so he can do your permitting. So now that we've established that:

1. I want a 5% commission if you choose him
2. Don't choose him. Let me do it and I'll give you a YUGE discount

That is all

We have a camp that, at one time had two "slips". Hurricane Rita silted in one of them. I did what anyone else would do and eventually called in the heavy equipment guys. Ol baw barely got out his truck before he proclaimed it wetlands. Called in the engineers, and sure enough, what was a boat slip is now wetlands. I'd have to mitigate to have use of that slip again.

I don't remember the exact figure, but the fine is extraordinarily high.

Thanks to the Clean Water Act if the swamp is connected even remotely to a navigable water body you are going to need a dredge/fill permit from the Army Corp of Engineers. Even if it is a very minor fill project you still gotta get it approved and you may have to offset any wetland destruction by incorporating a supplementary project (more money).

Get you a 3” pump and make yourself a mini dredge and do it slowly.

Or do it one bucketat a time.

A Johnny Cash song comes to mind, one piece at a time.
