Doesn't sound like you got there own your own, what you expect them to talk about it's an AA meeting, You need to go to a few speaker meetings, eventually you will hear someone tell there story and it will be just like yours.
I did what the old timers said, shut up and listen! I wasn't a drunk I was just crazy. They were right i was both,
I made 120 meetings in 90 days, It worked for a year, I could do it like my friends, wrong. My sobriety date is Aug.23 1983.
You will find out who your real friends are, when you quit using , It's a simple program but it ain't easy, you work it or you'll Die, I've seen it happen more than once
But, for the grace of god that could be me, I choose to live not Die

You do realize that AA meetings are held inside rehabilitation facilities right? Patients literally attend meetings during medical detox sometimes. I've been to one myself!

I went to an AA meeting a couple nights ago for the first time. Couldn't even get in the door it was so jammed. Bunch of old people sitting at Round Tables I turned around and hit the bricks got a pint of vodka punched myself in the face and went to bed

Why did you go to an AA meeting?

I've come to realize no one can help you but you. You have to want it bad so I'm doing it again going through withdrawals the last time. I'm done and I'm doing it on my own. frick that poison

Because I'm an alcoholic and I wanted help. But AA just isn't going to work for me

There is a saying. When you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, is when you change, There is a difference in being sober and being dry.

Reading threads like this knowing that I'm not alone with this talking to people who care about me is going to be my best options. I have a pretty good support system and some great people in my life. I just need to quit letting them down

Glad to hear it though if you're having symptoms I'd recommend medical supervision.
Don't think it's AA or the highway though. There's lots of other programs out there.

Thanks man. I've been down this road many times and I'm humiliated. The people at Baton Rouge General emergency are getting tired of seeing me. I've been trying to wean over a few days and I think I'm winning. I don't want to go back there but I know it is very life threatening. I've been on the brink of death a few times with DTS

To me you don’t really understand unless you give it time. When you start to see the people around you get sober and their lives change dramatically...man it’s something you can’t describe. That being said I don’t begrudge anyone who finds what works for them as long as they find it. Hell I was pissed at the people that got to go to rehab. I was going to work everyday and trying to save a marriage. Rehab sounded awesome lol. 6 years later though I’m happy because my path was my path.

You're not the first. One of the most humiliating moments of my life was suffering from massive DT tremors and simultaneously being able to hear all the ER nurses at the nursing station make comments about what a denigrate drunk I was.
You have to swallow your pride sometimes.

That's what AA turns into once you've hung around for a while.
I swore up and down it was a damn cult. They did all these readings like in church, passed around an offering plate, and held hands and prayed and brought God up. ??
Hang around though and it will change. For me being in a room face to face with other people is hugely different than talking to anyone online.

Yep, Unfortunatly, there is no easy way, my way may not work for you or the next guy, the more important point is finding it, And it's not easy

Just keep going man. I promise you if put a little effort eventually some of the cliches will start to stick. Only you can get yourself sober but AA is a good tool to use in helping you achieve sobriety.

I felt like no one was like me, Until i heard a speaker at a meeting tell his story, well, that turned out to be my story. I realized we were all different but just alike, My worst day sober is far better than my best day drunk or high

Thanks guys. Tons of great advice

Well your wife has a leg up on the operators/ leaders of AA because at least she can prescribe medication necessary to combat the physical dependency of chemical withdrawal.
AA people cannot.
Pretty simple.
ehehh. That is goofy. You think prescribing one drug for another is preferable to group therapy where they help each other.
For the record, I drank and drugged and quit on my own. I didn't do the AA type thing. I do, however, know that many people struggle to quit on their own, so AA is good and helpful for them.

This is the problem with non solution based watered down AA. I don't go to meetings to listen to old timers bitch about their day. I go to hear about the solution in the 1st 164 pages of the BB. If you are miserable and obsessing about drinking or telling war stories you aren't doing it right.
