The two stereotypes of each hold some water, but not a whole lot. Houston is definitely more laid back and has a more diverse, vibrant culture. Dallas does have more pretentiousness, but I think it's a bit overblown. Downtown houston is WAY more developed and fun that downtown Dallas. Deep Ellum is one of the coolest neighborhoods in America, so Dallas that going for it. The music scene in Dallas is better. Houston food scene is better (not debatable IMO).
I do like that each neighborhood of Dallas proper is walkable, once there. But you obviously can't walk from one neighborhood to the next.
Love Field is the GOAT.
A suburb is a suburb, so the rest is moot. Dallas needs a rail going out to ATT / Rangers stadium ASAP.
Rodeo cookoff this weekend is one of the best weekends in Houston. I would vote St Pat's parade for Dallas' weekend.
This is pretty spot on I think. Dallas is definitely cleaner too, even the biggest Houston homers like myself will admit that. Overall they’re very similar but because there’s so much crossover between the two as far as people go the differences get magnified.
Overall both are great cities to live in as young people starting a career. Tons of stuff going on and very affordable as far as large cities go

Because I don't see the point in living in a closet to be hip and cool. DFW road infrastructure allows me to be damn near anywhere in 20~30 min.
I live in a townhouse in turtle creek / oak lawn, hardly a closet
I like being a 2.5 mile drive to work and taking a $6 uber to anywhere worthwhile

1) How much you pay in rent and the sqft?
2) Uptown is nothing but a 15 min drive down the DNT. Las Colinas 17 min on Bush. ATT/Ballpark 30 min.
To each his own though!

You live in Addison right? I live right off Greenville and Walnut Hill in a brand new place to try to get a little more space for the money. Honestly it's a little better, but it doesn't make that much of a difference. FWIW, I like Addison especially if going out a lot isn't your thing, you really aren't far from anything.

I'd rather be within walking distance to restaurants and bars (and in my case, work), than have an extra room and a 30 min commute.

Yeah, I live in Addison. Had to go to Love Field yesterday and Mockingbird is littered with potholes. Isn't that area 500-1million dollar homes?!

I need an office for when I telecommute and an extra bedroom for when family comes into town.
I am also 31 and not single. Looking to actually buy a home.

I pay $1.07 for 2 bedrooms, an office, 2 bathrooms, and a big dining area.

Yeah, it's right next to U.Park and Highland Park. I assumed the housing was through the roof.

They're building a few new apartment complexes around there. Not really anyworse than anywhere else.

We have a townhouse off Greenville and Northwest HWY. I don't think I can move back to burbs unless we buy a house.

Okay you frickers call anything not Uptown or Deep Ellum / Greenville a fricking suburb
Highland Park is a suburb to you punks

Nah, just outside of Dallas. Addison, plano, Richardson, etc. I can be downtown in 10 minutes, bishop arts in 15-20, anywhere else in less than 10. Once you get outside 635, the traffic on DNT and 75 becomes exponentially worse.

HP is a safe space for the rich fricks who didn't want to be called Dallas.

I can get from Las Colinas to AA in ~15 minutes and it's inside of 635 so is it a suburb or not?

Western suburbs are trash, they don't count.
But yes, Irving is a suburb.
