Biggest question mark by far was going to be the pen. Both of them came up huge tonight. Hopefully we see 2-3 pitchers step up like this in relief this weekend.

Gilbert is going to be who he is all season. He has the ability to have a solid start, but also has the ability to get crushed. Not a typical Friday night starter at LSU. More of a Sunday guy.

Hitting will have to carry the load early on, while the pitching staff settles in. Cant wait to see Hess tomorrow night though.

Going to the game tomorrow just to watch that maniac pitch. He is scary looking on the mound.

Who on the team has the consistency and the stuff to be the Friday starter other than Hess and Gilbert?

Bain looks like he has a certain fire in him when he gets going that was really fun to watch. Haven’t seen that from him before. I like it

Sorry for the downvote! My huge fingers are to big for this phone. I agree with you 100 percent.
Gilbert probably just had jitters as he become the new Friday night starter. I think he settles down though and gets better as season goes along.

Gilbert will be ok, he pitches to contact. What got him in trouble was the errors, play of catcher- with pass balls, hitting some batters, and fielding( not covering first). Clean up some things any they only score a couple runs on him...First game, so everyone was pressing and spinning out, not ready to pull him yet, but everything will be in flux for a while....

Certainly a big question mark, but I think the bigger question is starting pitching. Caleb Gilbert looked good at the end of the season, but it was a very brief period. Hess did not look good as a starter, and his stuff doesn’t project well as a starter. Todd P has not performed in a way that makes us confidant.

All of our starters are big question marks. While it is the same with relief itchers, I’m sure that, with so many of them, CPM and Dunn will find a few reliable ones.

How hard was Beck tossing? Seems like he was an 85 guy last year. Wondered if he has picked up velocity.

Bain was nailing the strike zone which is a huge improvement from last year and Becks breaking ball was nasty, we definitely need these two to keep it up

yes they were. I hope that the pen continues to do their job. there's no such thing as a perfect pen but last year's guys were about as inconsistent as I've ever seen at LSU, esp on a club that good. throwing strikes was a serious problem.

my biggest concern is the rotation tho. losing lang and poche' is tough. this is the type of year you want to see a new starter step up.

Beck was really good and fought through the tough calls.
