Why disability rights advocates like me sided with NRA on Obama era gun rule
The Obama era rule DID NOT seek to block sales to people who are mentally ill, it sought to block sales from people who HAD A THIRD PARTY HANDLE THEIR SS finances
An aging grandma would have been affected

I'm as pro-gun as they come, but if you aren't capable of basic money management you probably shouldn't be handling a firearm. Neither of my late-80s grandparents should be anywhere near a gun, they can rarely remember how to work a television remote.

The elderly should have them because they are weaker and make easier targets.

You want to strip someone’s rights because they suck at money?

The elderly don't have their money managed by others because they "suck" at it, it's because they're cognitively impaired.
Let's not pretend we're talking about middle aged housewives who don't manage finances.

When it comes to gun laws/regulations, I'm a strict scrutiny standard guy the 2nd Amendment's very clear, you lawyers and law students will know what that means

Why do liberals hate the mentally ill?

Some of you clearly haven't dealt with this issue with elderly parents/grandparents.
My father doesn't manage his mom's money because she is bad with money, she was actually a bank manager at one time. He does it because she literally can't remember if she deposited checks or what her account passwords are.
That kind of person at that stage should NOT have access to a gun because they are far more likely to hurt themselves or others. The elderly are responsible for more accidental gun deaths than children.
If you're 90 and sharp as a tack, by all means keep your guns.

Attention PT Concern trolls:
You can stop here. There's no need to type anymore. We already know the rest of that shite.

The elderly are nearly 15 times as likely to injure themselves or others accidentally with a gun than to uccessfully defend themselves.
Elderly people with significant cognitive impairment or dementia should NOT be using firearms and I'm incapable of being convinced otherwise.
