Well, for one public schools have more money than private schools, but less shootings. And it's not just teacher salaries and benefits packages. They also have more money for security. The public elementary school on our street, where all 3 of our children attended, looks like a fortress. Also, many of the shootings have been in very affluent school districts. It just doesn't seem like money is a factor.

You don't think socioeconomic is a factor? Even public schools in affluent areas will have lower classes. Obviously there will be outliers, but I'm willing to be that most of the shooters were from lower class, unstable households.

ETA: Which makes sense obviously. I'd imagine 75-80% of American high school kids attend public schools.

But are the shooters coming from lower socioeconomic areas? The ones I can think of off the top of my head cam from affluent homes. Adam Lanza, Harris and Klebold at Columbine all came from upper middle class families.

Salmon finds something to spin every post by anyone on this board.
For some reason you asking an innocent question triggered him.

Private schools have more selectivity.

Which is another reason we need to ditch truancy laws and end the public school/prison system.

I'm missing your point. Following that logic, public schools should therefore have 75%-80% of mass shootings. Instead they have 99.99%.

There are private schools popping up everywhere. Some of them are lower quality, but that still doesn’t mean that public schools are in the same class.

Meh. Most PEOPLE are from that spectrum of society, so I'm curious to see if that's even true by percentage.

Anecdotally, i remember more upper middle/whites being involved in the high profile shootings.

We have our winner ! And the value that is instilled the most at a private school is discipline!
My daughter is in private school and at that school if the kid is a troublemaker they do not frick around. The parents get one chance to correct it and if that does not solve the problem they refund your money and tell you to take your troublemaker and get the frick out. Liberals fricked up everything when they took discipline out of the public schools. When they banned paddling it all went downhill from there. Kids in a public school simply do not respect the faculty because they know they are untouchable. it is time to put the discipline back into the public schools and the hell with the precious little liberal snowflake's mindset.

This is an established private school, I'd say at least 150 years old. Its a bottom feeder in the parish no doubt.

I agree with the teachers being paid poorly. My wife (no pics) teaches at one here in Tuscaloosa. However she does not have to deal with shitty students. Those didndonuffins cant afford 11k a year in tuition. She feels it is worth the lower pay to not have to deal with the thugs.

Their facilities are as nice or nicer than any of the city schools though...

Odd that you bring this up

I hadn't thought about the public/private connection but I was wondering if what separates us from other countries is that maybe our schools aren't a very healthy environment?

Good question. Are some aspects of public schools contributing to the problem?

I wonder what the gun ownership percentages are for people with a bachelors degree or beyond?

Do you think they’re higher or lower than those without college degrees?
