He didn't really experiment with Ethanol he put whiskey in the tank and it blew the fuel pump.
First off any grease monkey with a 4th grade education knows that you prime carburetors directly into the carb, not into the tank.
Next, a man who can make a car bend time, and could make an icemaker with 1880's tech, could get some oil and distill it. He would probably only need 2-3 gallons.
Then Not havinga fuel pump wrecks him?
The car had a carb, he could have made a gravity feed. No issue.

Was it ever explained how they advanced from 1985 to 2015 and were able to see their older selves? Did they clone themselves before they left?

quote:broke? it wasnt broke. It was out of gas. So it is easy to assume the one in 1955 had either no gas or bad gas and wouldnt run.
They could’ve just used that delorean instead of racking their brain on how to get the broke one up to 88 mph.

Unless they never return back to 1985 to live the rest of their lives, I don't see how this is an issue.

Also, gasoline existed in 1885.
So did plutonium in 1955.
Actually laying your hands on it was another matter.

Dude, it's fricking time travel. These things never make sense in multi-film franchises.
To quote Austin Powers, "Oh no, I've gone cross-eyed."

Here’s a thought with your example. Now that they’ve seen themselves in the future, especially Marty in his own house, wouldn’t his future/present self know his past self was in the house with him since he and Doc went back to 1985 “to live the rest rest of their lives”.

Depending on the type of time-travel rules being used, sure. Or you can argue that this was the first loop of the travel to 2015 event, and that the 2015 Marty had never time traveled and does not share the memories of time traveling 1985 Marty until the second loop of the travel, which is not shown in the film.

No, they presumably returned to live their lives.

They wouldn’t know they were in the house, that timeline doesn’t involve him time traveling to 2015. Once he travels to 2015, Marty changes his timeline to where that future doesn’t happen to the Marty we follow in this movie.

You’re missing the point. In order for there to be two of them, one aged, they would have to stay and age to be in existence in 2015. They left 1985 and skipped 30 years. In order for there to be 2 Martys in existence in 2015, he would have had to clone himself. One stays and ages, one leaves, skips 30 years and remains a high school kid when he arrives in 2015.

There are many varying time travel rules. And not one of them involves clones. You think you've got some "gotcha" thought on this, but you really don't. I see you conveniently ignored my post talking of time loops. There's also the explanation of every time Marty time traveled he was traveling to parallel dimensions.
ETA: Not to mention you completely disregard his post in responding to him. His point is that, once 1985 Marty travels back to 1985, he lives his life up until 2015, where 1985 Marty travels to again in an endless loop. Now the argument of "shouldn't 2015 Marty have memories of 1985 self being in his 2015 house" is a decent one that can be explained by various travel rules used by various shows/movies.
In conclusion, your clones point completely disregards the fact that 1985 time travelling Marty does not remain in 2015 for the rest of his life. He goes back to 1985.

No. You miss the point.
Me and you travel to the future and see ourselves. Since we left our timeline, the we we see would have to know that we are there because they lived it. See we left and one day will return to that point and resume life.

Exactly just like in Bill And Teds Excellent Adventure, future Ted has to remind present Ted to wind his watch.
