No matter what happens, as a controversy for sure.
I don't think the view will be favorable, eventually. Just looking at O, listening to him, seeing his decisions like OC's, he has a 0% chance of winning an NC imo. There's just no way you put that guy into a 2 game playoff and he has any chance of being consistent enough, and instilling a winning attitude into a team, to win against the Sabans, Meyers or the programs like Clemson. LSU is unfocused, and he's going against programs that have created laser-like focus on winning football games. O is not that kind of coach. He's in way over his head, and he's trying to use his "interim" skills to coach, and that will not work long term. I used to think he had a shot at an SEC Championship, at least a small one, but looking at the new coaches, the recruiting, Yeah I'd almost carry that 0% chance over to the SECC. O's ceiling seems to be 9-10 wins and maybe lucking into an SEC Championship. I don't see any evidence that he can do better than that.

I only hope he doesn't replace Hallman in LSU lore and in in 25 years your grandsons say "who?" when Ed Orgeron is brought up.
Then you can sit them on your knee and tell them the story about LSU firing it's most successful coach in history for a homegrown bumbling caricature of a coach who almost sank the program before quickly being ousted.

Since we are LSU fans, we hope he is remembered as the best ever, right?

Sure but that's not being realistic.

Good recruiter and good dline coach at best. I hope I'm wrong. Looking at the 15 wins Ed has leading LSU. Auburn was a very good win that finished 9-4 but had 3 losses to top teams and beat both the NC finalist. A very good win. Louisville last year a decent win. Cards also finished 9-4 and ended on a 3 game losing streak: Houston(killed them)Kentucky(loss) and the Tigers beat them handily. The two aggie wins are next sadly.
Look at the 6 losses, giving Ed a pass against the gumps. Just look at the other 4 where LSU was favored.
Bottom line is simply there is nothing in his past to indicate he is a good or even average HC. Canada, Key, Ensminger, Raymond? situations do not look good either.

Giving odds he will not be fired after '19

quote:of course, but rational Tiger fans realize that it's highly, highly unlikely, given his history and what we've seen over the past couple years. And there's a huge danger to letting a program slip too far down. The longer the administration allows it, the longer and harder it will be to dig out of the hole. Especially in the brutal SEC West - there's just very little margin for error.

Unless things start to improve, it sure won't be fondly.
He was a divisive hire. He's one of the few coaches that has been mocked as much or more than Miles was, and he doesn't have the trophies or thick skin Miles had.
He's had some of the more embarrassing and frustrating losses we've seen in over a decade.
He's had more drama coming out of his coaching staff already, than we've seen since the 90's.
His claim to fame was his recruiting, which thus far has been underwhelming here.

skillet, what would you say is a successful season
conversely what is a disappointing season
A successful season would be not having the Miss St. & Troy disasters like last season and winning all 6 of the games you're supposed to win, even if a couple are ugly wins.
That leaves,
Miami
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Bama
A&M
Winning 4 of those 6 would be great, but winning 3 is more likely. We have Bama at home. It's time.

Isn’t the better question how will assholes like OP be remembered? Did they say anything positive? Did they support the school in good times and bad? Did they show real pride in LSU rather than cheap ego?
Jerks is the first thing that comes to mind. God I hope O stays 100 years and phases on their graves. Underachieving little people whose insecurities show in every post.
