re: Why does a certain segment of society always talk on speaker phone?

In my job I'm on the phone almost all day, so a headset was given to me when I started. A lot of my clients probably don't stay on the phone as much as I do and don't have headsets. Rather than hold a receiver up to their ear for an hour, a lot of them put me on speaker. It's mostly annoying when you're listening to someone foreign whose already hard enough to understand without the added effect of sounding like she's stuck in a well.
