A Critique of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Video Review)

The author of the video Star Wars: The Last Jedi: An Unbridled Rage has released a trio of extremely long, but extremely detailed and well-reasoned videos. These videos, at least in my opinion, are the definitive reviews for The Last Jedi. If you find yourself with extra time this weekend, I recommend a watch. I guarantee they will not disappoint.
Part I (1:22:31)
Part II (1:48:07)
Part III (1:52:10)

That’s just too much. The only person’s review of this movie I’ll watch for over an hour is Plinkett’s:

4 hours? Fuuuuuuuuck that

I think you could really reduce most of the criticism to less than 10 minutes. 4 or 5 hours of ranting will put a sane person in a bad place.
Alternatively, they could just put together a new monty python troop and have them perform TLJ script as it was written (sort of like the holy grail for the king arthur legend).

He has way more material for this movie than any of the prequels. He should shred this movie to pieces.

Especially since Abrams took his advice almost to a fault, and then Rian disregards all of it and has directly admitted to seeing their reviews. The most damning and first point is who is the protagonist, which this movie completely lacks. It will make it even better knowing that Rian Johnson will watch it.

I'll watch because I hate TLJ so fricking much...

I personally don't think RLM will be as harsh with The Last Jedi as you guys think. Rian Johnson is a fan of their channel and I doubt they go as rough on Johnson's film as they did on the prequels.
The fact of the matter is, while TLJ looks better than the prequels and features better acting, it is actually inferior to just about all three of them in terms of everything else. The story, once you start thinking about it on a logical level, falls apart completely. It almost destroys whatever good will the franchise built back up with TFA and Rogue One and makes me feel indifferent for whatever comes in Episode IX.
If this Solo stand alone film is as bad as everyone thinks it will be, who knows what Disney will do with the franchise going forward?

They know Kevin Smith watches their channel, and they tear him apart. They show a bit of reservation for Max Landis, who has done their channel great favors, but that’s it.
That said with their HitB, they gave it their most damning statement they could: they don’t give a single shite about Episode IX thanks to this movie. I really think that’s the worst thing you can say about the movie is “it made me not give a single shite about the sequel”.

I still think AotC is worse, and TPM is entirely pointless... which the later is better than what we got. It is worse than Episode I. Agreed.

Ummm, let JJ redo Episode VIII to not be an SJW, Maoist, mindless shitshow. They’re still young. Just bite the bullet and say we fricked up.

I'm looking forward to Plinkett's takedown of VIII, but I hope it's released later rather than sooner. I think it's prudent to put some space between when the movie was in theaters and when a full scene by scene breakdown review happens. That's what made his SW prequels/VII, titanic and ghostbusters reviews critical darlings of film criticism. There's plenty of time to tear this movie apart to show that it has no clothes.

Why would anyone watch a review that is twice as long as the bad movie it is reviewing?

For one, me, fox, oml, Bob, and Frank and a few others have already given the definitive opinion.
For two, plinkett isn't out yet is frick off.

I would very much like this to happen.
Seriously, is there a precedent where something like this has been done with any film? I don’t know how a studio would go about making this happen.

TLJ is the Highlander 2 of Star Wars

Probably true.
From now on, if I'm wondering if I should spend time watching a film, I'm coming here. If the three of you are melting about it, I'll know it's worth a watch. If y'all claim it's the movie of the year, I'll know to find something else.

His TFA review came out I think 10 months after release FWIW
