Did you know your local legislators give away full ride scholarships to Tulane?

They can give it away to anyone. No real guidelines on who gets it. Just be connected or know to ask for it. 144 free scholarships at $49,000. Not a bad deal if you get hooked up.

Yeah I was in line to get it for 3 years, but chose a different school. They can only do 1 at a time so during my freshman year, it was already given to someone else.

My grandpa went to church with Robert adley, a senator from bossier and I got it.

Kind of a strange tradition given Tulane is a private school. Does LSU have something similar? I wonder how this started?

Yeah, I guess it's Tulane's way of lobbying for support in BR.

I wonder how many of those 144 scholarships end up being given to the kid of a friend, relative or close business associate...or involve some sort of kickback. O/U 140

Louisiana isn’t even the most represented state in the student body with this scholarship. If they did away with it, New York would completely overrun campus.

Yes.

It is a benefit those slimy POS get.

They can also examine their campaign contribution list when deciding who they will give the "scholarships" too.

Yes, my son just graduated from Tulane in 16 on a Scholarship from a State Senator. You do have to meet all the entrance requirements though.

It's hard to believe these scholarships still exist, but they are grandfathered in too strongly. There was a lot of negative press about this in the mid 1990s, but that eventually subsided.

Tulane in its current state is an interesting social experiment, with wealthy out of staters coming into New Orleans and running wild in one of the top party cities. It has changed a lot in 30 years -- back in the day it's where all the uptown New Orleans kids went to college. Now hardly any of them even consider Tulane, unless there is scholarship money involved. I grew up five blocks from Tulane and it is a neat place, but no way it's worth $69k a year, all inclusive.
