On Friday, the day that OTL's report on Michigan State's problems with sexual assault in athletics, LSU accepted a commitment from a top 20 recruit accused of rape in October. If he enrolls, he'll be the second player on their roster accused of rape.

ETA: i'm legit pissed about this
What are you pissed about?

The guy wrote a factual article and didnt leave out the details (he points out exactly when the charges were dropped).

So let me get this straight, now we are mad at journalists for reporting facts?

It's a shock journalism tweet to get people to click on a link. He couldn't have put "accused but not charged" on the thing everyone will see and not just the 1% who take the time read his whole article? Obviously not because then people wouldn't care near as much.

A factual article that is trying to equate taking commitments from recruits not charged with any crimes, in cases handled in the public light, to athletic programs sweeping countless of allegations against players that happened on their campus while the players were on the team under the rug.

So it’s disingenuous to say the least

because dumb people don't read stories. they see things in headlines and run with it.

if he would've put "accused but not charged" in the headline, i'd have no problems with it.

The article was an opinion piece that, while it does present facts, twists those facts to suit the author's theories. It shows biased judgment, unsurprising since it was an opinion piece, but it is also unsurprising that some people will disagree with the way the facts are presented.

The article offers nothing other than conjecture that most rape accusations are true. Based on that unproven assumption, it then advocates punishing athletes and coaches based solely on accusations. Basically, they are guilty unless proven innocent.

There is a big difference between recruiting players with a history of sexual misconduct and players who have one accusation that has not been proven to be true. There is also a big difference between a school that ignores or covers up misconduct by its athletes, and one that takes appropriate action and follows due process if allegations of misconduct arise.

The article suggests a subversive solution that might keep kids out of school, but it won't keep sexual deviants from molesting women.
