When Does LSU get an Elite Top 5 QB as a freshman???

Nothing wrong with what we got and that includes foster if he signs but Where is that Kid that just says NFL in 3 years? I mean why wouldnt a top 5 QB want to come to LSU as a Freshman and have a chance to start as a Freshman? LSU is always loaded at WR , RB etc... I believe we have some talent but at this point do we really know if we have a guy, on this team , that will carry the team if needed. Ryan Perrilloux and Jamarcus Russell were the last 2 that came in with the hype. We know what happen to Ryan but Jamarcus had that swag. Thats what LSU needs and it just doesnt seem like we have got these guys in over 10 years. Does LSU have a shot at a guy like this for next year?? This was the reason i was hoping for a top flight OC but we all know how this went down. Any top QB recruits for next years class that has LSU high on the list?

How many surefire 1st rounders come out of highschool as QBs.
Its not an easy position to predict.
Baker Mayfield had like 2 D1 offers. Now look at him.
Brandon Harris was one of the top qbs coming out of high school. Now look at him.

We probably won’t until we hire someone who is a proven commodity at developing QBs as well as an offensive philosophy that supports qb play.

Top 5 QB? or Top 5 in the nation? Some years a QB isn't even in the top 5.
Brennan was the #6 PRO QB in 2017
Narcisse was #9 DT QB in 2017 WITHOUT playing for 2 years
Harris was the #3 DT QB in 2014
It isn't the recruitment that's the issue, it's the development.

I'd be happy with an OC that knows how to evaluate a high school QB & develop him once he gets to college.
We've actually had a ton of 4-star QB's over the last 10 years. Mettenberger was really the only 1 that you could say was really good.

Quad Brown. his coach has been told he has more talent than Jamarcus and Jameis Winston coming out.

Take a downvote for not paying attention to our recent QB recruiting. Near all of the bigger named Aqaba we’ve gotten have been top 5-6 in their respected category. They were all lights out in high school we just couldn’t coach them up.

I talking about a Tua or a Shea Patterson type. Someone that is dam near ready the minute they set foot on campus.I'm not arguing that Coaching hasnt been a huge part of this but if a guy has talent then he can shine no matter what. They Said Tua was tearing it up in practice and that had Hurts not had such a great record Tua would have been starting in game 5. I know there are only a few of these guys every year but it sure would be nice to have another hodson or russell as a freshman. i mean look at bama and UGA a couple of true freshman lighting it up and Still have 2/3 years as starters

I believe it's evaluation. I think you have a guy or you don't. All this development stuff is over rated. You can teach some techniques, you can't teach a person's preparation, how they will react under fire, or the clock in their head.
I'm truly amazed by the development aspect. Can a coach make a qb better. Yes. Can they make him a all conference, pro, Heisman? no.
Jimbo is considered a qb whisperer. However, he couldn't do anything with Marcus Randal, Xavier Lee, Drew Weatherford, or his qb this year. I'm always amazed as the development argument. So he can develop J.R., Davey, Francois, Winston, but can't develop the others? To me, you either have it or you don't.

How many Programs are successful at the QB position without the top QB being signed?
The answer: A shite ton

The QB that was forced into action before he was ready? There are certain intangibles one must possess, but day one starters are a rarity.

Agreed. QB is literally the least likely position to start in their first season. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but if it does, it’s usually a sign that something is wrong.

We've had them. Here is a list of guys we've gotten since 2003 in the top 15
2003 - #4 Pro (Russell) & #12 Pro (Flynn)
2005 - #1 Pro (Perriloux)
2007 - #10 Pro (Lee)
2008 - #11 Pro (Jefferson)
2009 - #1 Dual (Shep)
2013 - # 9 Pro style (Rettig) & #13 Pro (Jennings)
2014 - # 3 Dual (Harris)
2017 - #6 Pro (Brennan) & #9 Dual (Narcisse)
Last time we had this type of combo on the team it was Russell and Flynn. Let us pray.

When we start having more successful quarterbacks. Hopefully coach E will run the offense around the skill set of the quarterback.

It IS QB development. And Play calling. Under your argument LSU missed on 10-15 QB evaluations? That doesn’t make sense. Especially when the opposite happens all the time where QBs who were not highly rated end up in the NFL. Like Mayfield.
The constant with LSU QB problems is Les Miles. He denuetered his QBs to where they were so afraid of making a mistake they could never flourish. His playing not to lose mentality put handcuffs mentally and physically on his QBs.
The great QBs are gunslingers with great confidence. They are not afraid of turnovers or Interceptions. They play aggressively to win. Like Mayfield. That is the opposite of a Les Miles QB at LSU. They came in as gunslingers but like Barney Fife, Les Miles took their gun and bullets. He also took their confidence and swagger.
A good example of play calling affecting the play of players is Leonard Fournette against Bama. Les Miles play calling probably lost Fournette a Heisman. The same thing with QBs. Two runs up the middle and a Hail Mary on 3rd and long will make any QB look terrible. And even then the QB could only throw to 40% of the field. The other 60% was a no fly zone under Miles. No early plays to get the QB in a rhythm and confident.

Ah, so small schools has better coaching than Than the power Five programs They have produced Kurt Warner, Joe Flacco, Brett Farve, Carson wentz, Tony Romo, Derek Carr, Big Ben, etc.
Why isn’t hallman producing another Brett favrve? Why wasn’t harbaugh able to make another luck? Jeremy Johnson isn’t cam newton, Mack brown could develop applewhite, young, and McCoy, but not Chris sims( the highest rated qb in the country) same coaching, why different results? I could go on and on.
Cutcliff can develop manning but not Robert lane? Lane was a five star guy. Hmmm

Hodson wasn't ready the minute he got on campus. He redshirted his first year.

The small schools obviously developed them. So in that sense they were better coaching QBs than Miles and his QB coaches. If they were at that level in high school, I guarantee the big schools would have come calling.
Each of the coaches you list developed at least one excellent QB. Many developed multiple ones. How many did Miles develop? That’s the whole point. Coaching staffs have to develop QBs along with all other Positions. That’s a vital part of successful coaching. Players don’t arrive where no development is required. Especially QBs. To say Miles and staff were bad at evaluating QBs ignores the fact they did not develop even one excellent QB. Even a blind squirrel...
