I'm on book three and you can tell he grows as a writer as he does more books so they get better.
I know game 3 at least was a sequel to the books I didn't play the first two games as they were computer only and I stick to console.
For the most part I agree that the games follows the books very very well. The only liberties they take really are with the Triss and Yen relationships in regards to Geralt.
