A by a mile.
B could have at least fit in the context of Luke being stranded on a distant planet if the rest of the story was good.

then it should be easy to respond with something more substantial than "Nu-uh".

The amount of TLJ threads and the fact you’re still crying about it is the most cringeworthy
Posted on 1/21/18 at 8:05 pm to Parmen
As much as you want people to stop talking about how bad a movie tlj was it will never happen. People will talk about how bad a movie it was forever.

Ok, I'm going to be THAT guy and ask: Wouldn't the choice between two things be "Which Scene is More Cringeworthy?
Can't give an opinion on which is worse because I haven't seen either, and I probably never will see at least the first. They both seem pretty cringeworthy from those gifs.

You somehow think what is clearly a milk from space sea cow was actually supposed to be a sexual reference to Luke drinking space jizz and that Rey was supposed to think he was blowing the damn thing. There is no point in discussing something so mind numbingly stupid.
Sometimes a duck is just a duck dude.

That God Awful jolly rancher scene from that God Awful Batman vs Superman movie.....and it's not even close.
Posted on 1/22/18 at 12:48 am to Dr RC
And you think it would have been ok if they had done that same scene and substituted a prominent female character instead? You don't think there would have been disgust or outrage if that were Leia the jedi doing the milking?
If you are interested there are a lot of books on film and metaphor. In a movie every screen image should ideally have a purpose and mean something to the audience. A movie with random actions or purposeless objects is a very poorly made movie.

Yes it would have been fine for Leia to do it. I'm sure there would be some sort of outrage b/c everything causes outrage in our overly dramatic clickbait world.
I'm well aware of visual metaphor. I simply do not think it was meant to have any sort of deeper meaning in this case. IMO it was simply there to make Luke look like a cook and b/c they wanted to get a silly gross out gag in there. I also wouldn't be surprised if they end up selling that sea cow thing as a toy that squirts out goop.
Again, everything doesn't always have to have some secondary meaning behind it. Sometimes a duck is just a duck.

Certainly. But when you build something like looks like that then it ends up being more like sometimes a dick is just a dick.
At least you had the honesty to admit it wouldn't have been ok if Leia were doing the same.

Well I don't think there would be much more than there is with Luke doing it. How ever much or little that is doesn't matter though. People like to complain about shite.
Posted on 1/22/18 at 2:01 am to Dr RC
Even your qualified objections implicitly admit there would be more outrage if the genders were reversed.
Posted on 1/22/18 at 12:34 pm to molsusports
What? Again, I think it would be the same amount as there is with Luke right now. I'm not sure how I could say this any more clearly.

Get over it and/or get a life?
Posted on 1/22/18 at 1:13 pm to Parmen
People are over it and people have lives. And whenever tlj is mentioned, people will talk about how bad it is as a movie. This will happen now and it will happen decades into the future.
Just accept it.

I thought TLJ was fine, and pretty entertaining. I haven't taken the time to delve into the super long discussion thread, but what is warranting all of the hatred from this board about it?

Read the LJ thread or watch one of the dozens of reviews on youtube. Or read some of the thousands of reviews on rotten tomatoes etc. Or just listen to the MH quotes on how he disagreed with every character choice RE how Luke behaved.
It destroys the major plotlines from TFA. It has a protagonist without adequate growth or change. It has none of the central morality of the OT. The theme from that was in major part an underlying belief in improving character and ability through effort and mentorship. It has numerous just weird things that contradict prior star wars ranging from the characters to the force to the whole utility of warps versus death stars to the question of why luke would leave a map to be found when RJ believes he does not want to be found.
It feels rushed although it is too long. It has seemingly useless plot lines to involve weird political mentions (animal release scene for example). It robs Luke of meaningful exposition to show his reaction to losing Han and asks the viewer to believe the boy who wouldn't give up on Vader would give up on the son of his twin sister and best friend.
It destroys Snope as the antagonist of interest when he would have an interesting and obvious foil for Rey in the last movie. It doesn't understand or like any major character from the OT other than perhaps Leia - not Luke, not Yoda, not even Ackbar. The whole thing is a giant frick you to the people who loved the OT.
In essence, although TLJ is a beautiful film with great sound and music it has little value as a standalone component of a new trilogy and makes the earlier star wars films worse.

Nothing. It's not a perfect movie, but it's not as bad as this board wants it to be. There is plenty to criticize, but the circle jerk hating on the movie on here is so over the the top its unbearable.
It's either massive fan boys bitching because their fan theories all turned out to be wrong or the people are so politically obsessed that they let any "SJW" element be an attack on them personally that continually complain about it. They just need to move on and ignore the new trilogy if it pissed them off so much.
