They quite often have a crappy signal, get bleed over from other stations or static, live 50 miles away

Yup. Terrible signal. And when you can get them clear their audio volume is ridiculously low.

It is a 100,000 watt signal--same as WEZB, WYLD, WNOE, WLTS, WQUE.

It often depends on atmospheric conditions and where you are located in relation to their broadcast tower.

I had to stop listening because I noticed a couple years ago because the reception was getting mostly static.

WNOE

What is that station's format?

Did they ever have promos that touted them as "WNOE, a James A. Noe station" ? We are blessed to have KNOE in Monroe.

Old James A. served three and a half months as Louisiana's governor when I'M Davis died.

50 miles is a bit of a distance for an FM signal to travel.

Back in the ‘60s, WNOE was the premiere AM rock station in NOLA. “1060 in Dixie” they ruled over cool music and coolest DJs - CC Courtney, Lou Kirby in the evenings, lesser was “Scoot in the Morning.” Then came FM “underground” stations and really cool music and by mid/late ‘60s cool DJs - Courtney and Kirby left, and AM radio became niche commercial stuff, and WWOM, WRNO, and I think WJMR were the early FM biggies. ‘RNO became the biggest and the others faded away. WNOE changed formats and found its way to Country. WTIX outlasted it’s shiny big brother in the rock/pop/soul oldies genre and i just discovered InTune the app and am happily Bluetooth streaming away with ‘TIX, WWNO3 Jazz and other NOLA stations among my favorites in my cars and Home on my Alexas. It is, to my tech dinosaur mind, nearly miraculous that I can now enjoy my NOLA sounds anywhere. Go ahead and laugh. I’m happy.

WRNO used to broadcast on shortwave - in the late 80s, it was the only way to listen to LSU day games when living in Dallas.

Someone seems quite familiar with the goings-on at 3210 Behrman Highway but 1) who is WLTS? 2) your brothers and sisters at WKBU and WLMG ask why you no love us no more, and 3) WRNO is over on Paris Road on a different tower.

If the OP is still hanging around, what compass direction are you from NOLA?
