Looking to get into bow hunting this year. I hunt just outside of Minden, LA. Talked to a store in Homer that seemed decent but I wasn't ready at the time. If possible, I'd like to stay around SWLA but will travel if worth it. I have also heard about a place in Port Arthur, TX.

Needless to say, I'm clueless when it comes to bow hunting and not interested in someone trying to sell me an expensive rig for my first one. I'd rather try out several and have a shop guy explain things to me like I'm a child. Just trying to get some input on where to go.
TIA

I'm in swla and go to precision archery in bridge city. I bought a halon 32 from them last august. My 3rd from them. THey carry Mathews, hoyt, bowtech, elite, etc. They have an indoor range and will let you shoot whichever ones you want.

If you know nothing definitely go to an Archery shop, you'll need to get draw length measured at the very least.

Buy used then you'll begin to know enough for the next purchase. Plus you won't take a real beating getting rid of the first purchase. You'll be surprised how much a difference it'll make, how varied the market is, and how many choices there are out there. Good luck - that's what I did and was glad - and I had fiance (no pics) who was an avid 3D tournament gal to help. (Yep, I had to learn fast)
