The problem is... I wholeheartedly believe this is how O thinks

Briles and Gilbert put up great rushing numbers. The power Spread that those two run is nothing like an air raid.
Exactly! But yet some do have an obsession with air raid offenses. This weird unfounded fascination with Leach is exhibit 1 to that effect. Okie St as well.

since so many offensive styles have merged over the years, the generic "spread" term leads to these issues
Quick test for those who are “afraid” of the spread. Go look up the final Top 10 ranking in the past...say 3-4 years and identity a team that runs a traditional, 2 back offense. You’ll see that they are few and far between. This notion this the Spread is a “Gimmick Offense” is absolutely asinine.
My point is people fear what they don’t know so I suggest to the OP to step outta of that 1990s cocoon and do some research of how Offense are run in today’s College Football

The veer and shoot that Baylor ran/runs uses plenty of old air raid passing concepts but I get your point

You realize the defenses those offenses played against all year right? Not really SEC caliber...

I like scoring points. I also realize that these teams get a lot of points scored on them as well. And these teams don’t play against the caliber of defenses you see in the SEC, hell just the SEC West period. Play to your players strengths. If you’re good at running the ball then run it and develop a passing game that you can use when you want to or need to. No need to throw it more than 30-35 times in a single game.

Find one offense that consistently threw the ball 45+ times a game and won a NC within the last 15 yrs. Are you looking for an offense that wins championships or one that finishes high in stats every year?

That's one hell of a fricking straw man you got there
Are you incapable of reading?

And their offenses don't have SEC caliber either...

Lol, outside of about 2-3 Teams, the SEC is mediocre. Time to start living out of that bubble

Have you read this thread? These offense don’t need to throw it 45 times to get the job done. The Air Raid has evolved exponentially since the mid 2000s
And to be honest, you better have a threat of a passing game to win

Briles's Baylor team ran for over 600 yards on North Carolina in a bowl game. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Research the coach or the offense before thinking anything that is spread equals air raid

Wide splits create wide rushing lanes. Big 12 defenses suck arse too.

With literally no QBs. Seth Russell, Jared Stidham, and their backup were all hurt

No one wants an “Air RAID” offense, but literally every team that has beaten Alabama(the game you have to win to win the West) since 2011 has run some version of the Spread coupled with an athlete QB that has to be accounted for.
As others have said, the spread opens up lanes in the running game and the passing concepts are simple.

The only “Air Raid “ offense was runbyHal Mumme and Mike Leach. It’s gone.

I just want an offense that can competently pass the ball. Is that really so much to ask? We have had that exactly ONCE in the last decade because we had a senior QB and two top shelf WRs, meanwhile there are other schools (in the SEC, yes...) who are trotting our true freshmen at QB and throwing it all over the yard. Get real. LSU can still run the ball a lot but this offense needs to be modernized

Baylor was among top 3-5 rushing in the nation with Briles and his style
And they had great qb play
