I don't disagree. Danny limited us, no question about it.
A little more about reads, though. When LSU played Arkansas in 2013 and Mett got hurt, Jennings threw the winning touchdown on a play Arkansas actually diagnosed correctly. LSU called a play they called Tsunami. As you probably guessed from the name, it was a flood concept. Jennings threw the touchdown to the void which was Dural. The play's design is to get the ball to Landry on the cross. The Arkansas safety diagnosed the flood concept and charged hard on Landry, releasing Dural. He read the play correctly, but sometimes the other team executes better or differently than you expect.

Danny's problems were physical. Simple as that.
Yeah, the inability to check down is a physicality problem.

Cajun mafia doing some fine work!
Makes you wonder, if Canada's offense was so shitty, why did Orgeron make the decision to hire him?

Yet canada still called those plays.
I don't know that we did. I think Danny's inability to hit long passes severely limited the effectiveness of the offense. We had so many incompletions underthrown or sure touchdowns that were just long gains because of the outerbounds of Danny's arm were just not good enough at this level. Nothing against the kid, he did his best with what he had.

The shifts are in service of the reads, they largely aren't used to fool a defense. To be clear, there are some shifts that are for decoy or deceptive purposes, but the garden variety shifting is to help the offense with their reads.
Well at least one poster here has a football IQ above room temperature.

I remember that well. But the play wasn't designed for landry. Jarvis actually told miles to call tsunami because the corner was biting down on him all game. The play was to dural.

300 yards vs. Ala. vs. Squat would beg to differ.

to think Canada has been running that offense all this time, until teams suddenly came to the conclusion this season to yell at each other and booom its over for Matt
Stupid DCs like Brent Venables couldn't figure it out but Joe frickface, the DC at Troy was all over it.

One of the most frustrating things to watch was Etling not progressing to the RBs on check downs after play action.
Toward the latter of the season Canada designed plays for him to specifically throw to the RB out of the backfield.

quote:That doesn't mean that the shifts didn't cause issues. A linebacker can tell his linemen to stay while he shifts over to cover. And sometimes you would let a safety follow a receiver across the field, others you might pass him off to another defender.
Opposing teams, when the line would do their shifts, you could hear them yelling to each other to stay where they were. It was all window dressing.

Thank goodness Steve Ensminger and Jerry OldasDirt are here to co-coordinate the tigers...

We had GAMES where we didn't complete passes to wide receivers and you are concerned with his ability to check down?

So he just repeated what Saban said and acted like he knows what the frick he's talking about ?

Early in the season it certainly appeared to be shift, shift, hand off over right tackle, alot of movement with no creativity afterward. Later on they began to run some more deceptive plays off the shifts, likely based upon reads. That may be a factor of the players learning the system, or it may be that the system may still be a work in progress. I don't know.
But certainly this criticism was valid in the early part of the season.

I think Mike is slowly going retarded. He was asked about aranda's salary and then dove into a 10 minute story about talking to some kid at the filming of a doc not knowing who robert kennedy was or some shite.

Remember the game O told Canada no shifts, just run everything straight up? Uh, Troy!!

Yeah, that's because if the primary receiver wasn't wide open, Danny wasn't throwing the ball.
We've heard the phrase "can't read a defense" for years on this board but Etling epitomized it.

Fair enough. Then I don't think our qb did a very good job diagnosing the defenses. We didnt throw to open recievers during games. It was a glaring problem
DING DING DING!
Now everyone needs to stop blaming the offense on Canada. It was at times a combination of Ogre-ron meddling, Etling being limited as a player and only having one year to work with the players and recruit guys to fit your needs as a playcaller.
