Disney simply cannot comprehend what they have in Star Wars

They are treating it as if they bought some cartoon or comic book characters, which is their legacy. But the fans didn't grow up with the Skywalkers coming to life from comic books or on Saturday morning cartoons. We were introduced to them on massive movie screens, with a family history that was larger than life.
You just don't cast that aside, to rinse, wash, and repeat. They think they bought the SW universe (much like thet did the Marvel universe) and can just mix and match pieces, change fundamental characteristics, and bring in a new set of action figures to sell merchandise
But the Skywalkers are the Star Wars family. Just like the Cartwrights were on the Ponderosa, or the Ewings in Dallas, or the Waltons on their mountain, or the Partridges, or Brady Bunch, Jeffersons, Sopranos, Clampetts, etc
You don't simply cast these families out of their homes, or change their personalities, or force out of character lines on them, or invade their places with other families. Fans won't react to that. Hell, someone even tried to bring Dallas back with the originals, but when J.R. died irl, it was quickly cancelled
Disney thinks they bought Walton mountain, and now are entitled to show us stories of all the other families that live around them. And are mystified that we aren't excited about that

"nobody hates star wars like Star wars fans"
Chill the frick out. This isn't Trek, we're supposed to be the cool ones.

Having a star wars movie every year is too much. They're going to run it into the ground.

What about the two ewok movies without a single Skywalker? That's pre Disney.

The main problem to me is their lack of competent writers. They should use Timothy's Zahn or many of the other sci-fi writers. These modern pseudo-intellectual directors in Hollywood don't get it they never will. They didn't have to use the expanded universe per se but they could definitely used some of the writers from the expanded universe to write Scripts and then have a competent director follow it. It's not that hard.

You mean, mystified to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars?

I'm just going to leave this right here for all the haters.
Star Wars:
The Last Jedi
Domestic Total as of Jan. 1, 2018: $531,511,829
+ Foreign: $523,300,000 49.6%
= Worldwide: $1,054,811,829
Any questions?

I don't hold anything against them for trying to shake it up but they should do so respectfully. Why piss off the fans that got you to this point?

I think they can comprehend what they want out of it.
The toys that made us doc succenctly said:
Disney bought Lucasfilm for only 2 reasons:
1) They wanted to make more Star Wars movies...
2) And expand the internationl market for Star Wars toys
TLJ shows exactly where they are taking this - they've killed off Han and Luke...brought in more diverse characters, more stupid animals, different weapons, different ships, etc.
They had no intention of recreating and sticking with the original toys...just like Lucas it's going to be new ...
There might be a whole Chinese rebellion fleet in the next movie full of Chinese ships and cuddly Pandas that saves the day.

Huge misunderstanding of what the original Star Wars were about...

Disney knows that whatever Star Wars movie they put out will gross 100's of millions of dollars. They also know they will make triple what they make on the movie in merchandising. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
