I agree with everything you wrote, but there weren't REALLY time constraints. I assume you're referring to quarterback recruiting as being where the pressure was coming from, but Orgeron hired Canada on December 15. That's over 6 weeks before NSD. There was plenty of time to get the guy Orgeron wanted and still get Narcisse and Brennan back into the fold.

The recruiting class as a whole needed a lot of work. You have to remember that LSU had gone through a couple of months. Orgeron had to get things solidified and give a sense of stability. Plus there were holes in the class. The way we finished at linebacker was amazing.
For everything that Orgeron has done, his management and closing of last year's class was truly elite.

But, there is a cost to change. I think it's reasonable for Orgeron to make the decision that he needed to make a good "on paper" hire sooner rather than later. That seems to match my recollection of the temperature of the fan base.

It didn't work out.

The biggest issues were Brennan and Narcisse. The seemingly lack of urgency about the hire was making things really shaky in their recruitment.

The fan base (on the rant anyway) was totally freaking out and clamoring for the hire. In part because they were furious about the Orgeron hire and in part because Auburn was coming hard for Narcisse and Oklahoma State was coming hard for Brennan.

I don't disagree with what you're saying that there was pressure to make a hire, I'm just saying there wasn't a tangible deadline that Orgeron was working against.
