Sink upstairs not draining after numerous Drano uses.
How much is this gonna set me back?
Inb4 (a) reference to snaking my wife’s drains, and (b) tree-fiddy

Go to Lowe’s. Buy a snake. Do it yourself. $50 or less

We need the plumber every holiday when there are more than 3 people.
Cause of overuse.

Don't where you are located - AAA rental and Homedepot rental has hand held auger's to unclog drains - Baton Rouge

This.
And buy some gloves. It's going to be fricking gross.

Just run a line from your sink drain to the turlet.
Drain it off in there.
Geesh, do we have to chew your food for you?

Don't waste your time with the snake. Screwdriver and a hammer is all you need.

First, at least disconnect the trap underneath the sink. Good chance the problem is right there and you can clean that out easily.

If you don’t want to go the DIY route, Roto Rooter will run you about $175 to $225. You can usually knock that price down quite a bit if you tell them (when they get there - not over the phone) that you only want it snaked and not their “Clean and Treat” plan.

Try $2 at Lowes for a drain snake. Just snaked the fiancée's sink and shower drains since she likes to clog them up with hair and makeup.
Snaked her pipes shortly after as well.

Take the p trap off and clean it. That all it is. YouTube it.

Why would it rust?
Take care of it like any other tool.
If you have girls living in your house, it’s worth having.

Pick up a can of Rustoleum spray paint and hang the snake over a tree limb/swingset/etc. Spray paint it with anti-rust base coat and avoid it rusting! Nobody's gonna know or care you've got an ugly green or some odd colored drain snake.
Try a plunger 1st before the snake. WalMart has a small one for sinks. Once you rule that out try the snake from a hone improvement store. Once you see the crap the plunger stirs up you will not need to be told to buy gloves!
Take it from a guy who lives middle of nowhere where just a diagnostic house call will cost a hundred or more w/out a resolution. Just spent around $3.5k total for what turned out to be collapsed septic drain system beyond the tank.

There is a product called Liquid Fire that is the shite. Pour some in your rooftop drain vent. Be careful and wear eye protection. Bet it solves your problem. Lowe’s. That’s if the blockage is past the P trap.

Before calling anyone, take the p trap apart under the sink that isn't draining. See if there is blockage in the u bend. If there isn't, do like everyone else is saying and snake it out yourself. My wife and daughter constantly clog tub/sink drains with their long hair.
