Perriloux was the one that hurt. Just couldn't get his shite together.

However, you first need a line and that is the greatest area of need right now.
There is an old adage - OL/DL rarely "look good" - particularly during the game (by that, I mean, you can go back and see it on film - other than the occasional pancake or successful bull rush for a sack, it's not obvious in real time). What you will see is that all your offensive skill players look good - often the QB and/or OC will get the credit in that case, and it is typically warranted if an offense is clicking. Ditto for linebackers and DB seemingly everywhere "smothering" - your Mike, lockdown corner or DC get the credit there, generally deserved.
But, what is missing in the analysis is that almost none of the above is possible with even mediocre line play. It doesn't have to be world class, but you need good or a little better - and by good, I mean consistent, predictable, reliable - line play on that side of the ball.
A mediocre QB will look good behind an exemplary OL. Conversely, a mediocre OL will make a good QB look mediocre or worse. Even worse, you can have a great QB and a bad line will get him injured, forcing you to go to your bench.
Likewise, when you see linebackers making all the tackles, folks will bash the line, particularly the DTs. bullshite - that's big boy's job - tie up 1 or 2 blockers precisely so the linebackers can run to the ball and make tackles. Under most circumstances, a DL making a tackle for loss on a runner means he blew up the play or the OL blew the scheme - either way, that's lagniappe.
So, rebuilding high quality, deep lines should have been and obviously was priority #1 this year. The team will look better, particularly compared to MSU and Troy this past season, with these changes alone.

You take a QB every recruiting cycle! Every...single...one! We need options and we need a progression lined up. What if McMillan and Brennan or Narcisse transfer next year? Then what? Once scholarship QB? Lindsay Scott transferring is like missing one that cycle.
Sign a QB every cycle!!! This needs to be fixed now, and it starts with signing Foster. We don't need another 5* CB...we need a dynamic Quarterback! Any 5* DB would be nice to have, but at the expense of a QB?

Because we aren't actively looking in this recruiting year. We have two studs to choose from next year
quote:Absolutely correct. QB is the most important position on the field. A great college QB can make up for a whole host of woes and lack of talent at other positions. Successful teams nearly always have a great QB.
And that's a mistake if true.
No top school defers recruiting a QB because they assume who they already have will pan out and future QBs will sign with them. We can't make assumptions. All you can count on is the guys that are willing to sign a LOI right now.
The QB position is a difficult position to project. The landscape is littered with "highly rated" QB busts. And if an LSU fan has not learned that lesson by now, then God help them.
LSU doesn't know what it has at QB. No, not even the coaches. Brennan and Narcisse have not started a college game at QB.
Folks that think that we can rely on Brennan and Narcisse are ignoring the significant potential for these young men to fail to live up to their high school evaluation. They might not be busts, but they might average or below average. It's damn hard to win championships with average play at QB.
Teams that are perennial powers tend to over-recruit at QB, and let the lesser talent transfer out. LSU over-recruits at WR, DB, and other positions. We damn sure ought to do that at the most important position.
I wouldn't want to forego recruiting a player at any other position merely because I have a Sophomore and RS Freshman who have not started a game or even payed a significant number of snaps. Would you do that at left tackle? Maybe, because you have other lineman who can switch positions. You can't do that at QB.
The more QBs a team brings in, the better the chances are that one will pan out. In addition, the earlier they are brought in, the more time they have to develop into serviceable QBs.
Not signing a QB this year forfeits an additional chance at a good QB. Moreover, it also waives a year for a QB to develop into a serviceable QB.
It's a mistake.

We've brought in talented QBs but just never develop them or put them in a situation to really thrive.

I blame it all on the Mannings.........

That's irony for you. The one position that has plagued this program for years with underperformance and the general sentiment is "meh, we're good for now." I really don't get it.

We should recruit and develop quarterbacks until we have, clearly 3, the QB right now, the QB of the near future (and can backup right now) and the QB of the far future.
We absolutely don't have that. We have 2 high upside "maybes" - FFS - we'll have a true sophomore backed up by a RSFr with wired together knees (plural).
As always, I like all our QBs - but with our history, getting 1 in this class - and I'll take a quality grad transfer at this point - someone who has played substantially in a season at a P5 school would be super nice.
Just so we don't have to end up with a walk on or, essentially, high school QB in any game.

yet for the past decade we cant ever seem to sign a difference maker.
It's mostly an image problem due to the run-oriented offenses LSU has run and poor coaching up of the QB's they have signed. If Brennan and/or Narcisse turn out to be big-time players for LSU, that could be the beginning of changing the image into a more positive one for potentially getting elite QB candidates to think about coming here, imho.

That was actually the thinking of the late Jim Finks as well when he became GM of the Saints. Having played in the backfield myself many years ago in HS, I can certainly attest to the limitations and dangers of having a shitty OL.

I don't think it's as much that as it is us not having a great option. Rogers would have been great but the BHarris debacle and apparent bad blood with the former Parkway coach may have been enough to sway him away from LSU. We also did not show a high powered passing attack this year to attract quality prospects.
How hard did Canada recruit a QB? Did we get negative recruiting due to the probable rift with O and Canada? Probably, but recruiting a QB should have been in full swing long before that. I don't see many current options that will be difference makers, but that's JMO. Do we need another QB? Yes. Is there a good option right now? IDK.
One thing is for sure. We need to be a much better passing team in 2018 for multiple reasons.

Surely, there is a JUCO QB, who is interested in LSU

So much stupid! This is all part of the plan. LSU is going to drop to only one QB so that the fans will not be calling for a qb from the bench!

Last year was our best QB class, maybe ever. Give it some time.
