The reasoning is it attracts students, thus over time paying for itself. That’s the justification in any facilities—better dorms, recreational facilities, dining halls, etc.

And it’s also true, at least to an extent. Is the lazy river cool? Hell yea, and I used it more than once my last month at LSU. Would it flip me to LSU over another school as an incoming freshman. Most likely no, but the UREC main facility upgrades sure as hell would.

Bottom line: most likely unnecessary, technically frivolous; though I get it, and it is pretty tight.
