Pappy is ridiculously over priced.....as it’s all secondary as stated.
Many very good options without the flashy mystique.
I wasn’t kidding on my suggestion. But, 12 and 107 are a tad difficult to find as well. Expect to pay $50 for each. They retail around $28-35...

Because the OT has better things to worry about like pediatricians, NOLA shootings, and pit bulls.

Current secondary prices are (give or take 25-50)
ORVW 10 - 400
Lot B 12 - 425
PVW 15 - 950
PVW 20 - 1200
PVW 23 - 1650
Btac ER 17 - 750
Btac WLW - 500
Btac GTS - 400
Btac THH - 325
Btac Saz18 - 450
Weller 12 - 80
OWA - 70
WSR - 50
That said, find some of the following at retail and dad will love it (these are nice gifts as well):
EH Taylor Single Barrel - 60
Blantons - 50-60
Four Roses Single Barrel - 40
1792 Full Proof - 45
Hell, get a Parkers Heritage 11 at secondary for 200 or the 24 year for 350 and he'll have a damn fine, hard to get bourbon for less than the Buffalo Trace stuff.
Eta
If you want to spend the money, go with the PVW 15 or the Eagle Rare 17 if you're looking at 2017 bottles for best "values."

Last year I would've said the 13 yr Rye.
I've only tried the 10, 15 and 20 this year so...
ETA:
Yes - I'm in the position to have tried a bunch of 'em...

If you want some unique whiskey then I can recommend George Washington's Whiskey. It is made using his same recipe at his distillery located at Mount Vernon. It's rye whiskey and they also sell brandy. Comes with a cool history explanation.
LINK
You can only purchase them in person at Mount Vernon though. I'd be happy to help if you are interested though.

Have some 1792 Barrell Proof. That is a stout arse pour.....
Also, Noah’s Mill is fricking outstanding. The dad would love it. $45 is a great price for something that tastes way higher.
