I’ll be working downtown and I’m looking to spend less than $1500/mo. Found a nice house near downtown Fairhope, but I’m not sure if the commute is worth it over the bridge. I’ve found some downtown Mobile Apartments like the Marine St Lofts and The Towers at Ryan Park which seem alright.

I was about to pull the trigger on Fairhope but thought I should give Mobile a shot before making my decision.

Lived here since Katrina. You can do apartments across the bay in Baldwin county but you will hate the Drive. I think I actually have a post on this topic somewhere.

Either get a place downtown or get apt in one of USAs apartments. You don’t have to be a student and I am sure you will find plenty of action

Spanish Fort and Daphne are the next best thing to Fairhope on the eastern shore. Much quicker commute, too.
Everything on the eastern shore will be more expensive.
Midtown has some cool spots, south of Springhill Ave. and north of Government St.
West Mobile is good, anything West of University Blvd. and South of Airport Blvd.

The Towers at Ryan Park

If you want to be close to work and the bars. Midtown if you dont want to be directly downtown. Plenty of rentals in midtown in your budget. Eastern Shore commute will be hell every day

I'd highly recommend the Oakleigh Garden District if you're going to be working downtown. If you're younger it's obviously close to all the downtown bars as well. If you're wanting to be close to the action you'll get bored pretty quickly in Fairhope. Ignore all these West Mobile recommendations unless you enjoy an endless landscape of strip malls.
