This is a bad loss for Republicans. No other way to spin it.

Lessons that need to be learned if we want to hang onto a majority in Congress:
1. Bannon needs to be done. He's not a genius, he's an idiot.
2. You can't rely solely on cultural issues and win (although cultural issues are important).
3. In spite of the fact that TRUMP won in a stunning upset, you can't win by only throwing up hail marys. I.e. The rules of politics still apply to us (even if they don't always seem to apply to TRUMP).
4. The McConnell hate is straight retarded and doesn't hurt anyone but us.

Are you suggesting that Alabama is a progressive state that rejected Trump or that they rejected a Creepy scum bag like Moore?

As a conservative, I say GOOD! The sooner the GOPe is exposed for belonging to the same bird as the useless left the sooner we can vote them out and replace them with people who aren't looking to be there for 30-40 years.

This election was not a referendum on Trump. It wasn't a referendum on Republicans. Alabama is still a red state and to think otherwise is foolish.
This election was a referendum on Roy Moore. He's an awful human and candidate and most logical people in Alabama realize that. I had DARK red friends calling people for Doug Jones. The most conservative people I know wanted Doug Jones to win. At the end of the day, people want to be represented by someone who is decent and won't embarrass the state.

This loss was 100% on Roy Moore. He already creeped everyone out, and the little girl stuff only sealed the deal.
This has nothing on to with a referendum on Trump or anything like that.
Literally any other R candidate wins by 10 points
Moore was a terrible candidate

McConnell’s support of his guy, over the rest of the primary field is what screwed Alabama. He diluted support for alternatives to Moore. He should have stayed out of it.
I’m done with the GOPe.

Putting establishment Republicans in office for decades will bring nothing to fruition for conservatives. We have the house senate and presidency and those fricking assholes still don’t want to pass anything.
The reality is Mitch, Ryan, McCain have hardly done anything for their duration in congress. Putting in more people like them is not going to fix the issue.
This isn’t an endorsement for Roy or candidates like him. Rather we need people to primary Republicans and Mitch in crew are fighting just as hard to keep the status quo.

Ffs. It’s not a bad loss. It’s an ugly loss, for sure, but it’s a half term in a red state

Yes it is. And it starts with leadership.

Bannon is not as influential as you think.

Sure, okay.

True.

McConnell should have backed Mo Brooks and we wouldn't be having this problem today. That's where he and his NRSC organization FAILED.
I saw this quoted in another message board...very important:
quote:
The Battles of Fort Necessity, Monongahela, Long Island, White Plains, Fort Washington, Brandywine, and Germantown were all battles that Washington either directly led or played an important role in… and in each of these battles Washington’s forces were defeated.
It’s not always who wins the most battles that wins the war.

, I've got bad news - even the reform candidates want to be there for 30 years.

This election was bad for the United States and good for the state of Alabama.

Roy Moore lost this election the night of the Hannity interview. His answers did not seem sincere.
Now the people of Alabama that saw the interview and were disgusted didn't vote for or against Roy Moore, they just stayed home.

JBE beating Vitter, Jones beating Moore.
Roughly the same thing.
The election wasn't decided on political issues, it was decided on character.
I wouldn't make more of it than it really is.
Another similar race was Brown v Coakley for the unexpired Kennedy seat back in 2010. Brown the Republican won, but it was not a trendsetter, it was an anomaly. It happens.

You're leaving out the Trump card. I'm hoping that he is successful of draining the swamp (regardless of party - b/c I am an American first) which he has already started doing. Hopefully, this will shock the country into seeing a need for term limits and we'll blast some legislation through. Most likely wishful thinking, but hey, it could happen!

BS. The Left slandered Moore with HIGHLY SUSPECT sexual ALLEGATIONS of forty years ago. And it worked...on the WOMEN, because of the passions re the 'Weinstein' era.
Bannon had no knowledge of this in Moore's past...but from here forward, that will be considered in picking Primary Candidates.
It's a costly learning experience for Conservatives. They must IGNORE Dem allegations of personal immorality...and strictly focus on the POLITICAL ISSUES. Or lose their Freedom to a Party whose President throws His most potent political critics...IN JAIL. Think Dinesh D'Souza. Or Vlad Putin.
Useful idiots lost this election. Played like a fiddle. Mostly the Gals.

People I know don't vote based on one singular issue. Especially one that is hardly affected by this particular election. So yes.

I agree with all this. The biggest thing last night did was show Democrats everywhere that they can win anywhere. It's somewhat blind confidence because there are a LOT of extenuating circumstances that allowed last night to happen, but it's still confidence, especially after what happened in Virginia last month.

This has nothing to do with any of that. it has to do with being stuck with a bad candidate due to allegations against him that came out too late for anything to be done by the Repubs. There was no time to take him off the ballot, no write in campaign would have worked. IF those allegations never came out, Moore would have been elected.

So they also want someone who votes on restricting gun rights.
Who opposes the entire trump platform.
Who opposes cutting taxes.
That's what these conservative people you know decided to just throw in the towel on their basic ideals for a Democrat Progressive?
