Marco Rubio Emerges as Wild Card Amid Tax Conference Deliberations

Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted Friday morning that there are "going to be problems" if the congressional committee working to better align companion tax proposals passed by the House and Senate in recent weeks dings the child tax credit that the Florida Republican has vehemently supported.
Specifically, Rubio warned against GOP leadership weakening the credit, which in the Senate bill sits at $2,000. House lawmakers signed off on a weaker $1,600 credit. He also hit out at the idea that Republicans chosen to go to conference would cut corporate tax rates without making the child tax credit "refundable for working families."
Rubio had originally pushed for an amendment – alongside Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah – that would have made the child tax credit refundable by slightly raising the proposed corporate tax rate from 20 percent to 20.94 percent. That measure was attacked by Democrats and Republicans and ultimately failed to make its way into the Senate's final bill.
But the onetime presidential hopeful appears to be digging his heels in as lawmakers from the House and the Senate work to get on the same page – all while keeping lawmakers in the upper chamber happy, given their narrow 52-48 majority in which just three dissenting Republicans would kill the bill.

Once again Marco is the only person in Congress looking out for us little people in the eyes of the government. He is the only person to stand up for not only what he believes in but also what is right. Both parties in Congress are shameless in their trampling over the American people to further their own gains. Luckily for us we have Marco willing to fight the uphill battle in our stead.

You lose all credibility when you claim Marco is the only one who does this or that.

Refundable tax credits are a fricking travesty.
If your tax liability zeroes out, that should be it.
Period.

Payroll taxes are for programs you will (theoretically) benefit from directly. Not the equivalent of refundable income tax credits, imo. Everyone should have to pay them
