Am I the only one who thinks ESPN controls college football?

Over the last few years it’s become clear to me that ESPN has CFB by the nuts. Whatever agenda they want pushed is what happens.
They have complete control of Saturday games (outside of the few on Fox Sports) and every single bowl game is one ESPN. Plus games that aren’t on air can be streamed live on ESPN 3. I truly believe they help decide who gets in the playoffs too.
I’m sick of their monopoly on college football and American sports in general. Rant over.

No you're not the only idiot in the world.

If ESPN controlled cfb then the playoff would have been USC, Ohio State, UGA, and OU

Don't be silly.
Jay Z controls it because of the illuminati

NBC doesn't have any TV rights for FBS level football other than Notre Dame home games.
Fox and CBS have a couple of bowl games between them, but the bulk of the games are on ABC/ESPN because ESPN has been willing to overpay for TV rights to major live sports. Plus ESPN is the only network willing to pay a ton of money for TV rights to games between 7-5 teams that kickoff at noon on a Wed/Thur/Fri while most people are at work.

You don’t think ESPN is in the tank for Bama?

Yep, that's why ESPN has a multi billion dollar contract with the SEC.... so they can keep their teams out of the playoffs.
Dumbass.

Somewhat incorrect. Disney owns a bunch of the bowls outright. That is why they get to televise them. I think last year they owned all but 4 of them.

Fox has fought back a little, taking the top B1G game. That is healthy. CBS gets that top SEC game, but is otherwise a non-factor. That's a tough call on the playoff. Herbstreit's argument is ESPN would have wanted OSU in there for more geographical balance and eyeballs. But, I am with you that they seem to have more of a vested interest in the SEC and think the Clemson/Bama game would be more intriguing than a potential blowout like last year.

They own some. I think there's a total of 40 now and Disney owns 14, so they still have to purchase TV rights for most of the bowls they broadcast. Disney owns these:
Armed Forces Bowl
Birmingham Bowl
Bahamas Bowl
Boca Raton Bowl
Camellia Bowl
Celebration Bowl
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Frisco Bowl
Gasparilla Bowl
Hawai?i Bowl
Heart of Dallas Bowl
Las Vegas Bowl
New Mexico Bowl
Texas Bowl

yup
ESPN was beating the Ohio State drum loud and clear, and were the only nutcases bringing up USC. They have become completely tone deaf to their audience.

What about the ACC Network, B1G Network and Longhorn Network? You just ignore those?

They also have the Pac 12 Net. They will eventually get the AAC (unless CBS gets them) and Big XII I believe, which they kind of do by using their regionals for that.
ETA:
But was there a thread on how Disney is trying to purchase the Fox Regionals?

Isn’t all of this just incentive to get the matchups that they want??

My point is that ESPN has certain teams that benefit them from a rating standpoint, I.e. Bama, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, etc.
Consequently, I think they lobby for said teams to be in higher ranked positions when the season is over.
Just my take, which is obviously correct.

ESPN if given the option would take any combination of ND, PSU/UM/OSU, Texas and Bama most likely.
