Understand the Committee's Job

Which is to put the BEST 4 teams in the playoff. The conference championships certainly are a factor but only come into play when teams are deemed to be close in nature.
Ohio State was so inconsistent this year based on their talent potential. And you cannot lose to an average team by 31 and make the playoffs. You just can't.
Everyone is whining because bama got in without playing in the championship game. What if LSU was 11-1 with it's only loss to conference champion bama??? You would be thinking much differently.
I just get tired of the whining our fans consistently do. Just like in 2011. Those were clearly the best two teams in the country and it wasn't close. And this year, the committee, AP poll and coaches poll got it right too.
How about we field a consistent, competitive team each year and get our butts in the playoff conversation and stop with all the crying!!!

The BEST is the issue. In sports, opinions should only matter until the games are played.

OSU would have gotten in.
Alabama got in on brand only.

You are 10000% correct. The crying and melting on this board the past few days has been embarrassing.
First because Jimbo was hired, and next because Bama made the playoffs.
I'm not happy they made it, but I know they deserved it (compared to the other teams). I was pulling hard for Wisconsin, but I figured it wasn't likely to happen...and understood that Bama was likely going to be the ones to replace them in the playoffs.

Bama is 100% a top 4 team.
Losses happen all the time.
Bama lost to us in 2011 and was still the best team in the country.
Georgia lost to Auburn this year and still turned out to be the best in the SEC.
Just because Bama didn't go to the SEC championship doesn't mean they aren't top 4.
Just a bunch of salty fans of other teams tired of seeing Bama at the top.

No one has a bigger brand than The Ohio State University. Which that drives me insane when they say The!

Sorry, dropping a game in the middle of the year is much less an indictment of a team than losing a game at the end of the year, knowing full well the implications of the game. Alabama is a lame duck this year. If you watched any of their games from about midpoint on you could see it. A sputtering offense and a loose defense was their MO and it finally caught up with them and bit them in their arse.
The committee just wanted a tiebreaker rematch between Clemson and Bama.

Don't act like the Ohio State "brand" isn't as big as Bama. Ohio State shouldn't have gotten blown out by 30 to Iowa. Its not about anything except that.

Exactly. Committee was put in place to field the best 4 teams out there. If anyone thinks Bama is not a top 4 team this year then I would love to hear otherwise. Yea, they lost to Auburn but OU & Clemson has an unranked loss from early in the season.

No, I wouldn't (they wouldn't have put us in the game, by the way - we don't get a Mulligan - except for 2007, and that was weird AF and we were still SEC Champs).
A conference champion should not have to face a team from its own conference in any kind of playoffs to prove they are the national champions. It was bullshite in 2011. It's bullshite now.

Are you really saying that dropping a game to Iowa, by 30 is better than losing to Auburn, because the Iowa loss came in the middle of the season?
You can't really believe this.

The melt has been funny.
I mean, this pretty much exact scenario played out last year, except the team left out actually beat the team that made it in on the field. So how did anyone expect different this year when they didn't even have that going for them?
The committee has been consistent - the number and manner of losses matters a great deal.
My main problem is two SEC teams making it from a very average SEC this year. But unfortunately OSU lost by 31 to an average Iowa team. Thats why Iwas pulling for Wiscy to win.

So you say LSU would never get a mulligan, and then instantly point out the time they DID get a mulligan. Which is the only time we were in a situation to get one.

If you can't win your division and conference that should matter. Auburn eliminated them. That should matter. A game was played and Alabama wasn't the best team that day auburn was. The game is made irrelevant for tv ratings.

People forget that the committee came in to put the 4 best teams at the top.
Clemson's team isn't changed much from last year, still have a great all around team.
Oklahoma improved offensively, have an iffy defense but definitely top 4.
Georgia improved alot and it showed the whole year.
Bama is a very similar team to where they were last year, had some key injuries at the end of the year.
Ohio State is virtually the same team as last year.
You know, the team that lost 31-0 in the playoffs.
The committee got it right. I hate Alabama with a burning passion, but they are a top 4 team and will show it against Clemson.

Best is subjective when picking teams. If you win your conference championship game, you should get a chance to play for the national championship. College football needs to minimize human bias and let it play out on the field. Conference champions get an automatic playoff spot from the Power 5 conferences, add 3 at-large spots to make an 8 team playoff.

We got the SEC Championship Mulligan. Bama gets a Mulligan without even winning their division. When has that happened to a single other team since the BCS started?
I'll hang up and listen.

As it pertains to the big game mentality of a team, yes, that is accurate. Are you saying that the Ohio State Iowa game was more important from a mental/game preparedness standpoint than the Auburn Alabama game?
How a team performs in obvious big games should weigh heavily in the selection for other big games.

We wouldn’t know because they weren’t able to risk another loss in a championship game, while others did have to risk it and some paid the price for it.
The system is flawed, and will continue to be until we expand the field.
