No paying a grand for a Canada Goose is paying for a brand. Believe it or not when it gets below 40 degrees more than twice a year a jacket is a good investment

Just get what all the other women are wearing this year.

Need a new jacket for the cold northeast. $300, seems decent quality
$300 could be a decent price for a winter jacket. What do you plan on doing with your jacket? Are you hitting the slopes? Walking around downtown Boston? Snowmobiling in the Great North Woods?
BTW, if your purchase is based on the name on the front buy Patagonia. TNF can be found at TJ Maxx

Commuting in NYC and I visit Michigan about once a month. I have a Lands End parka but it’s a bit extreme. Have some Patagonia layers and my warmest daily jacket is a uniqlo down jacket.
I don’t really care about brand names I haven’t thought North face was overly cool since I got the standard black fleece like every other person in college.

Whose idea was it to hire this guy as their model:

The down in the north face is a much lesser quality than other brands. I planned on buying a Canada Goose, but I cheaped out and got a Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody ($179 after 40% off on Backcountry.com). I wore it with a T shirt when it was mid 20s a few weeks ago and it’s super warm. The similar Arcteryx supposedly is a little nicer than the Patagonia, but it’s $80 retail more.
Barbour is not warm. I have one and freeze my arse off in anything below 30 degrees.

Oh well if commuting is the major use then find yourself a good quality peacoat. Classic look and great for blocking the Winter wind.

Arc’Teryx.
The only acceptable answer.

Patagonia and Burberry are the only jackets that look good and actually keep you warm.
North face seems the quality has seriously gone down in the last decade.

If I’m going to spend money on a jacket, I’d get something of better quality like Arc’Teryx.
Congrats on spending $300 for a windbreaker.

I would get a triclimate over that.

You’re asking people from the south for their opinion on a jacket for use in the northeast?
I lived in Alaska for 6 years, my concern was if it blocked the wind/kept me warm, not if it was fashionable. People down here dont care about that, it doesn’t get that cold.
