If Hurts is garbage then every other SEC school should revoke their membership and play in Conference USA.

Their passing game is starting to remind me of LSU under Miles

If he ain't a quarterback and Nick wants to get rid of him (which ain't gonna happen) we'll take him. Dude knows how to win..does what it takes. Runs, passes, and evades the rush as well as anyone.

You put fitz in bamas system and he puts up better numbers than Hurts.

I still laugh when Bama fans think Hurts is ALL SEC at QB. He's not even top2, let alone #1.

Tua is going to get a 100% chance to win it.

Clemson won and was close to beating Bama 2 times for national title, because of Hurts. Bama needed a QB to continue scoring, and open up the run game.

If you have a defense like Auburn, why would you ever sell out for a pass. Stop the run, and hurts wont beat you.

The guy has dominated the sec the last two years for the most part.

Wait, WHAT????

Saban and the talent at his disposal is why Hurts weak numbers jump out. His numbers are nothing to tout, especially with the talent he has around him, compared to 99% of the teams they face.

15 td's 1 int 3 of those vs mercer. GTFO with that dominated shite. Sabans talented around him has dominated.
And hurts has 5 star talent all around him, compared to what many of the other qb's who are better stats wise, have as talent.

But the dude is NOT a QB. Bama has been running a glorified wildcat for 2 years.

That trash/glorified wildcat, has beaten us and just about everyone else for the last 2 years. If I'm Saban, I stay with the guy who brings me the best demonstrated ability to win me games and that person is Hurts

Jacob Coker was the QB in 2015

Well he literally was 1st Team All-SEC in 2016 (and SEC OPOY). I don't think many Bama fans believe he will be All-SEC this year though.

Maybe your phrasing is just bad but the only real way to interpret this is that you think Clemson was close to beating Bama for the 2015 NC because of Hurts. I can assure you that isn't the case because Hurts wasn't even on the team.

Upvote for the elusive proper use of "literally."

No they didn't. They lost in the semis though, which is still illustrative.

I started feeling this was a possibility after the last 3 games. Yes, Hurts has a great overall record, but the difficulties in those games I think opened the door in the offseason.

If you believe Tua can make those games not even close or your team even more efficient, you make the change. You don't just say, "Oh well, we won didn't we?" At least I hope coaches don't think that way except Miles.

I remember earlier in the year Dan Patrick tried to mention Hurts as a Heisman candidate

I like DP but that was comical

Hurts was clearly the best option last year even as a true freshman. Bama got all the way to the Championship Game and ran into Deshaun Watson playing at an elite level. I think Saban could stomach that even though he saw the deficiencies in Hurts, including in the championship game. There were no other options anyway.

This year I'm sure there was the thought that Hurts would get better as he has shown flashes of becoming a more polished QB. Plus the only viable option was another true freshman and Saban, probably rightfully so, didn't want to go to that well two years in a row.

Now, however, they have lost a second time in two years (the horror I know) and Hurts was again fairly limited in the loss. I don't think this one will sit as well with Saban and therefore I think there will absolutely be an legitimate competition this off-season into next year between sophomore Tua and Junior Hurts and Saban will be willing to go with Tua if he is better.

The other problem is just offensive identity in general. We have one foot in the RPO offense and one foot in more of a pro-style. The gameplan and playcalling seems disjointed. Daboll/Saban have to sort that out and part of that will depend on which QB we go with.

Maybe this is just because we are coming off a loss, by my gut tells me Tua is going to be the starter at some point next year and not give it up and the offense is going to be tailored to match his style which will include featuring the RBs in the running game much more than the QB.

Ya, I see nothing wrong with that take on the situation.

Looking at the 2018 schedule though, if Saban has "cold feet" about starting Tua, there won't be much competition in front of Hurts for him to lose the job until essentially the same time as this year, when it may be too late.

Should be interesting.

I wish our team's problem was we're so good we win too many games with a QB who may not be our best option.
