Why can’t LSU make that same argument? Why does it only apply to Bama??!

If someone has to explain to you why any goal-setting that includes strategically losing a game- any game- is a bad idea, I'm not sure what to say to you.

Wow you obviously have no clue what your talking about.

In 2011 if LSU loses do you think they get the same treatment? If you answer yes it proves your idiocy.

Bama is the golden team, they have the goat coach and get that benefit. Lsu ? Not so much.

Hell no. I won't accept this crap. This isn't Vanderbilt. This is LSU. A SEC championship is the bare minimum. Every year.

We won't win it every year, but we should be capable of contending.

I don't see a team led by Orgeron even coming close to toppling Bama. Not unless he's so hands off, there's no point in him even being the HC.

Part of Saban’s “genius” is that he’s controlling the dialogue and making that argument effectively. Again why does Bama get to be the only team that’s worthy of playing for a national Championship with one loss? We can control the narrative too. We are the only school in the country (besides Auburn every few years) that can compete with any other program / conference in the country but that has to play Bama every year. We should get the tip ball especially with the 4-team playoff. SECChampionship would be great but unfortunately it doesn’t carry the same weight as it once did. Who talks about 2011 SEC championship? No one. Who talks about 2011 regular season win? No one.

A "smart approach" is another way of saying "strategy".....your words are mine.

It matters.

Recruiting. LSU can’t be what it needs to be without winning in February. It’s getting harder to win in February without winning in November.

Fun. Look at 2011. Most fun I’ve ever had as an LSU fan. We were flawed and still beat a “perfect” Bama team. We were terrible on Offense and still beat the pulp out of lots of good teams based on will alone. It’s kind of hard to give that up just to try to back door into the playoff.

Competition. Iron sharpens iron. To be the best you have to beat the best. The wins against the professional college team are the ones that mean the most.

Beating Bama in the regular season doesn’t matter. Even if we pulled the upset Saturday night how far does Bama drop in the polls? How far does LSU move up? Even if we beat Bama, run the table in the regular season our likely opponent in SECCG is Georgia. Say we lose to G

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather play for an SEC title and lose than to lose to Bama, and not have a chance at all. Other wise, wtf are you playing for?

You are so dumb! Bama is in the secw, beating them means we have a clear path to the sec game in Atlanta and an easier path to the CFP.

You sound like someone who has never played an organized sport.

Beating Bama doesnt matter? To who? If LSU beat Bama Saturday it would have been our biggest upset victory since the 90's. It would definitely swing some recruits for future teams.

It would have put us in control of the SEC West and our future. We would have raised questions about a 2 loss team in the Playoffs.

If you really believe what you posted then you are a really bad fan. The goal is to win the next football game. Always, no matter who the opponent is.

Mandeville Slim thank you for the thoughtful and insightful post. Recruiting is exactly the point, and the narrative recruits need to hear is in part included in your comments. My suggestion expounds on this narrative, suggesting to recruits that in addition to the opportunity to play against the best of the best, if we fall short to a professional team, you, recruit, will 1) still be playing for a top five program that can beat any other team in the country and 2) have the opportunity to make the playoffs as a 1-loss team. You will be playing for a fan base that supports you unconditionally, have opportunities for post season awards along with the longstanding tradition of cashing-in in the NFL. The season does not start and end with Bama, and losing to Bama does not have an overtly negative impact on your experience at LSU. We welcome the challenge but it will never define our program or how we view the success or failure of a season more so than any other team on the schedule.

It does matter... but it doesn't matter if it matters to LSU or not. The streak will probably get to 10 but Nick will be almost 70 by then and you will start to see a decline. It's only a matter of time but the worst is behind us.
