Pure Dual-Threat

If we had the option if the QB as a running threat ...we would have had a different ball game. We were stretching them wide with the jet sweep threat. When we were televising run, they were selling out to stop Guice. A running QB would have been too much to defend without sneaking up the safeties.

Narcisse is not playing. Get the frick over it.

Yeah, like was saw on 1/9
I preferred this outcome to that one

Bama was selling out their safety to stop the Jet Sweep. If you had a d.t. qb fake the jet sweep and go around the back side, it was wide open.
I don't care who the qb is, This offense is perfect for the d.t. option, though.

I'd take a competent QB that can consistently complete passes to open WRs.....just saying.

If the S came down into the box during the JS I would have faked the jet sweep with a TE that released on a fly route. Meaning the TE would probably have the entire middle of the field to him self with only a LB to beat. I like those odds.

I'm so tired of this dual threat quarterback argument. If we had a quarterback that could hit open receivers we would have won the game to be completely honest. Here's a fun fact for you. Deshaun Watson who is a dual threat only had like 30 rushing yards with like 15+ attempts but he threw for over 400 yards against them. What does that tell you? It probably tells you nothing because you're so convinced that a dual threat quarterback is the answer. The facts are that you have to have a quarterback that can hit the open receivers when they are open. Etling had plenty of time of throw all night and he just couldn't hit the damn receivers when they got open. If he does that then LSU would have won that game. It has nothing to do with dual threat quarterbacks and is more related to just having someone back there that can execute when they need too.

First, Jefferson was not a DT.
Second, the problem on 1/9 was that we didn't have an o-line. We had one on 11/4, and we will again next year.

Dual threat seems more like a situational bandaid than a true solution.
You are analyzing one instance where this MIGHT have worked based on a Saban game plan not designed around needing to stop a dual threat.
We need a competent and precise QB not a dual threat. They would just plan for a dual threat if we had one.

You must never watch lsu.
we never want a duel threat QB would make too much sense!

Yep, the biggest plays I remember were with Darrel Williams in the Wild Tiger. As huge as the holes were they would have been bigger with the threat of him throwing the ball.

Not much if you take your spin for its face value. Now go back and watch the game, then tell us how many of those 400 passing yards came from plays that were extended due to his dual-threat ability.

A dual threat is nice, but I'd rather a QB who can hit open receivers.

I believe that is what the term "dual" threat QB means? He can PASS and RUN.

It's not just the yards a DT QB gets on designed runs.
A DT QB does not have to rush for a lot of yards to have a big, positive impact on an offense. DT QBs make DC and defenses account for them. DT QBs slow down the defense's rush, make them contain, and make them stay in their lanes. DT QBs are better at extending passing plays and that results in more passing yards. DT QBs can pick up yards with their feet when receivers are covered or when the pocket breaks down.

Dual Threat Recruits in the last 10 years at LSU.
Russell Shepard, Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris, Justin McMillan, Lindsey Scott, Jr., Lowell Narcisse, Jarrard Randall. Stop with all the dual threat bull. It's old.

Yea Dual Threats thrown into a Pro Style offense. Now you can stop with all that BS.

This doesn’t fit the rant/xbox/PlayStation/chipkellyoffense narrative.

Just get a QB who is competent and does not wait too long to throw. Etling waited too long to throw many of his deep balls the other night. He needs to release before three seconds. McCarron won two NC's without being a DT type QB.....Cardale Jones won a NC as a mostly passer.
Also, Davis and Sullivan NEED to step up and start going for balls thrown their way. They have the height advantage on the DB's which means they have the size advantage all around.
I'm still waiting on Dee Anderson.........

Unfortunately, "dual threat" are often single threat in reality - running. And if you're prepared for that, you usually do fine.
Certainly, there are exceptions - $cam was brutally effective in college either running or throwing.
Tom Brady can't run worth a crud. Neither can Drew Brees. How do they look compared to "dual threat" QBs?
A QB that can handle 3- and 5-step drop and fire accurately, making good decisions with the ball is better than any "jack of all trades" athlete that is the flavor of the week.
Now, having said that, Lowell Narcisse is more of the same mold as $cam - he is raw and unfinished. His knees are a question mark. IF he can develop, he can provide either a change of pace (I'm thinking a wildcat package or some other option - read or spread) or build an entire offensive approach around him.
But that is clearly some time in the future. For 2018, barring some major development, Myles Brennan is the LSU QB and it will have to be based around a "quick out" passing game, whether or not Canada stays and continues to run his motion-heavy, jet sweep offense.
