For some reason, I remember watching them a couple years ago and the commentators saying it was the last time they would play for a couple years (or was that ND and another classic team?)

Side note:

That year had the first "Game of the Century".

#1 Army vs. #2 Notre Dame.

The game ended 0-0.

Notre Dame finished the year by whipping USC 26-6 and won the National Title.

Army finished #2.

Both teams had the same record but the pollsters gave the title to Notre Dame because they beat USC bad.

Notre Dame only beat two ranked teams all year. #17 Iowa, #16 USC and tied #1 Army.

Army beat #4 Michigan, #13 Duke, #5 Penn and ties #2 Notre Dame.

But Notre Dame got the nod. It pays to schedule big name teams sometimes.
