You can't hide that LSU did not play well last night, however it was an exhibition. I am sure it was a teaching moment for the players and I am hopeful we will see a much better performance when the games count.
Here are the stats:
KEY TEAM STATISTICS
Field goal percentage – Tulane 54% (32-of-59), LSU 36% (28-of-77)
3-point field goal percentage – Tulane 50% (7-of-14), LSU 17% (4-of-24)
Rebounds – LSU 48, Tulane 39
Offensive rebounds – LSU 19, Tulane 3
Second chance points – LSU 12, Tulane 2
Assists – Tulane 21, LSU 10
Turnovers – LSU 10, Tulane 15
Bench points – Tulane 30, LSU 7
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS LSU Duop Reath: 21 points, 13 rebounds
Skylar Mays: 19 points
Brandon Sampson: 11 points
Wayde Sims: 10 points, 11 rebounds
TULANE Jordan Cornish: 17 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists
Cameron Reynolds: 17 points, 9 rebounds
Samir Semic: 16 points, 6 rebounds Caleb Daniels: 11 points
Colin Slater: 11 points
NOTES LSU started Mays at point guard, Randy Onwuasor and Sampson on the wings and Reath and Sims in the post. Aaron Epps was unavailable due to a foot injury.

Great
Congrats on being the first one ready to jump off the ship for basketball season.
It took 24 hrs after 1 scrimmage for it to happen.

They actually played pretty well, just could not get the shots to fall and had zero post depth. You probably did not actually attend the game just posted the stats and saw loss to Tulane by 10.
I think it was combination of a number of factors as it relates to shooting one when you have so many new guys taking over key roles and minutes guys will not know until 5-6 games into the season where in the offense they are most comfortable or when to attack/hold. Also a little opening night jitters combined with a tough place to play depth perception wise. Depth perception does not account for 4-24 I get that , not saying that but in the first ten minutes for instance I know for a fact both Skylar and Brandon were on target it was just tough finding the range.
Combs was out as well as Epps, and yet we still out rebounded the Wave 38-28 and only gave up 3 off. boards. The guards and especially have to give credit to Sims rebounded there tails off and for the first time I have seen in 3 years put a body and attacked the rim.
Also with Epps out we struggled to matchup with Reynolds, and not saying anything negative whatsoever to Coach Dunleavy great person and coach but Tulane had a lot of guys back, where as for CWW he treated it more of as a scrimmage by taking guys out and teaching after fundamental lapses or effort.
The game was not sloppy and for the pretty decent crowd and how early it is in the season I was impressed with how much offense both teams had in place. I like how now under CWW when ball screens are used there is complimentary action after it and to along with it. For instance almost every time I watched when Reath would set a screen and there was a hard hedge, opposite wings were screening down or moving without the ball. Have to get more playmaking from Sampson and Onwuasor. Epps will do very well in this offense.
Baby steps in the rebuild, the effort was there as if the game counted but for instance they just dont have enough time to put in all the offense like the under 8 shots and neither team had more than two inbounds plays in.
Btw love the stack out of bounds look with a full 4 man stack, instead of CJJ bullshite 2 man look to just get the ball in.

28 of 77 shots?
They won on the boards but you won’t win with that kind of shooting.
They’ll get better

Wade said they had a long way to go on defense before the game. He wasn't lying. At least he knows what needs fixing.

I just have a hard time grasping how giving up 84 points and over 50% FG percentage and shooting what.....28%....is playing pretty well. No I didn't see the game but some tells to me seem apparent.
I don't care to rationalize this, just get better and get the couple of guys you had out back and I'll give this team and WW a fair shot. I still think the future is bright but let's not go pumping to try to excuse this one...JMO.

Long way to go, Ww has had only 2 weeks of full practicing to change a lot of bad habits. Sims, Mayes, Sampson, Reath have a lot of bad habits to shake. One thing is for sure we played hard and there was a lot of coaching going on the entire game.

I'll be old by then. Hope it's more like 134 hours.
But I agree. They will get better soon. This is a good coach and players believe in him.

It's going to take Wade awhile to install his program. In all candor I am not expecting much for the first year or two other than a competitive effort and gradual improvement. Hopefully year three starts yielding the results we all want.

Thanks for a really great analysis. Not being there left me with only the stats and game write-up. This helps a lot. I remain positive anyway, however your analysis after seeing the game was very insightful. The season starts in 8 days. I am pumped!
On the other hand, 2 nights from now, the college football world will be rocked with the most unexpected upset in years. After I recover from the excitement, I will be ready to see the new BB program begin its climb to the top.

I get that, but the team we played won 6 games last year, they were worse than we were. Now there is something to be said for their coach being there the previous year and his system taking shape.
quote:It's a shame that is an issue we even have to mention, but it was a constant under CJJ so I'm glad that's the case but that honestly is the least we should expect of our team is effort.

As for coaching I'm excited to see what WW will bring and I think it will be a plus, but having been such a die hard hoops fan for so long here, I will be cautious until I can see something tangible over time.
But I'm hopeful which CJJ took from me.
