Original contractor clearly does shoddy work. He was originally supposed to do the addition on my house as well, but we had issues with that, which is why I hired a different contractor. I don't want him touching anything else on my property.

OK I can see that BUT did you sign off on the completed work? If not, why not? This should have been a prerequisite for the insurance company.
And if you did sign off, then why?
