I pray I live to see the day that Alzheimer’s is eradicated from this Earth.

I have watched this disease take its toll on my grandmother (the only grandmother I’ve ever actually known) to the point that she will probably pass away over the next few days. I’ve seen the pain it has caused so many, I just want to see us finally triumph over it.
Sorry for the dear Facebook post.

Watching someone you love lose their mind is a horrible thing. You know they’re still in there somewhere because you get pieces of them now and then, and the glimpses get rarer and rarer until they don’t exist anymore.
Good luck and God bless

Yeah that was the first thing I thought of too when I read the OP. How can I be competitive about prioritizing disease cures for no reason, and how can I create a false dilemma fallacy?

Honestly surprised there arent better treatments
Usually highly prevalent diseases like that are a big target for drug companies since the profit possibility is there. The current treatments arent great

Took my grandmother way too early. It’s a horrifying disease that turns your loved ones into completely unrecognizable zombies.

If there ever was an argument for assisted suicide, this is it.

This is taking place right now and is raising money to research and fight the disease. A 1,098 mile bike ride from Knoxville to southern Florida.

Took one of the most educated, well read, and talented men I knew. He couldn't recognize his fork, much less his family in his final year. He was perpetually frightened. He didn't understand anything in his environment.

Prayers sent up brother
Buried my FIL last month as he had zero clue about anything. Hospice came in for the last 2 weeks as he just shriveled up and died
My MIL has dementia and early stages of Alzheimer's as the disease is gut wrenching and taxing on the entire family.

Like so many others, it's a terrible disease. Prayers to your family during this time.

Agreed. I too have lost a grandmother to Alzheimer’s and it’s a terrible way to watch a loved one go. To see the helpless look of frustration in their eyes when they realize they haven’t a clue is only half the heartache. The other half is knowing no matter how hard you try to explain things, you know they’ll never get it.
frick Alzheimer’s disease and many prayers to you and your family.

I went to a funeral today for a wonderful lady. She was so full of life and extremely active before that horrible disease took her life. She was a great mother and was very proud of all of her children.

My grandma has this now. Grandpa died early August. She asks my mother, father, and myself everyday what happened to papa.Where's dad? When's he coming home? Why's he in there?
Everyday, we have to tell her he died. You can see her world shatter right before your eyes. She is crushed. She doesn't remember being there at the hospital with him when he passed. She doesn't remember the funeral. She is lost and confused.
For the past week, her disbelief that he died has turned to a slight anger. She tells us that we are lying to her. She wants to go next door to her mother's house. Her mother has been dead since 89.
This disease is like dying alone. It's extremely sad to see.
