I'm starting to think that we may be better off set up post Brees than a lot of people think.
Lattimore has finally stabilized our CB group Ramczyk has already solidified himself as being ready to hold a starting T job Williams is one of the highest graded rookie safeties and is already making plays Anzalonw showed really good potential before going down Kamara may be the best satelittle back Payton will have by the end of his career Hendrickson seems to stay in the rotation very regularly Even Muhammad has some really good potential flashed in the preseason
We may have one of, if not the best, o-lines in the entire league We have an all of a sudden very deep DB.group, even moreso when Breaux comes back Nice young skill position guys that will be around for awhile between the WRs/RBs The defensive line is the best its been in years with some actually very good depth. If Fairley was on this line it may be top 5 in the NFL level
The only remote weakness I see on this team currently is the LB group but I think Robertson playing so well with Klein and still having guys like Teo coming off the bench is the first step in the right dorection since Vilma/Fujita.
I may be riding a little.high here, but this is honestly the best I've felt about this team in 4 years and I really think we're finally back in the right direction after Payton cleaned house of his boys .

I agree. The offense has legit talent & depth(besides a backup RT...hopefully Strief comes back week 14) at every position. We could use a legit #1 TE(we do have 3 guys here though), another deep threat WR, & an eventual replacement for Unger(mid round pick). It's not like we have to rush to make it happen though. Finding Brees' replacement & continuing to add O-Line depth are the 2 most important things on offense imo.
I really like our talent & depth on the D-Line, CB, & S positions. I think we have solid LB's that are smart, instinctive, & sure tacklers. They just lack elite athleticism & speed (especially after losing Anzalone). The 2 biggest weaknesses of our defense are giving up a big run to the outside & LB pass coverage. We really need to add speed to the LB position in the offseason. Assuming we re-sign Okafor, QB & LB would be my 2 main targets in the 1st round.
I think we need more depth at the o-line. Strief is gone after this year and while the starters are great, who can really be considered reliable behind them? Kelemente may be the only one. That said, I don't know if you use a first rounder on o line depth (even though we did this year and it's paying huge dividends) or go DT/LB. That's obviously an offseason problem but that seems to be the early direction of the draft.
Yea we're kind of getting ahead of ourselves b/c there are so many unknowns at this point, but right now these are the positions to be targeted in the offseason imo...
-Assuming Brees re-signs with us...we still need to consider drafting his eventual replacement. 1st round or bust imo. I wouldn't mind the 2nd round(if we had a pick in that round), but the 3rd round seems like a shot in the dark. Russell Wilson's are very rare.
-A #3 RB if Lasco doesn't suffice. This can be had for cheap in free agency or with a 4th-6th round draft pick. We could also draft one in the 7th round & sign 2 or 3 udfa's. Chances are that we'll hit on at least one of them. RB is the easiest position to hit on in the 7th round & udfa's.
-Another deep threat WR without investing a lot. Although, I wouldn't complain if we took one as early as the 3rd round if our target falls right in our lap. 3rd/4th round is where the value at WR is.
-The TE position is all dependent on whether or not we cut Fleener.
-Another backup interior O-Lineman(OG/OC...probably a mid round pick) & a backup RT for Ramczyk. Should be able to find a decent backup RT for cheap in free agency. LT should be fine with Armstead as the starter & Peat/Kelemete as the backups. Also, I think LeRibeus has a decent chance to stick around next year.
-The DT position is all dependent on whether or not Fairley plays for us in 2018.
-Hopefully we can re-sign Okafor for a reasonable price. We'll either highly invest in the position if we don't retain Okafor, or try & hit on a low risk/high reward guy again. We hit on Okafor, but seriously busted with Kruger using this method. Hendrickson might factor into the decision if he keeps improving.
-We seriously need to add speed to the LB position & it's probably going to come at a high cost. I really like our depth though. Anzalone looks like he's going to be the kind of LB we need, but we all know about his injury problems(which is why he fell to the mid 3rd round).
-I seriously don't think we need any help here if Breaux comes back 100% healthy, but we'll have a better idea at the end of the season. Lattimore, Crawley, PJ Williams, & Breaux(RFA) will all be here next year. If Sterling Moore hasn't regressed this year...I'd take him back as our #5 CB. Maulet might even develop into a decent CB by then.
-The Safety position is all dependent on whether or not we re-sign Vaccaro. If we don't...we probably need to draft a Safety or sign a vet free agent. If Vaccaro keeps playing like he has for the past 3 games...somebody is going to pay him a good amount. I'd take Bush back as our #4 Safety, but we should have 3 guys better than him to start the season.
-FB & LS are a question mark for next year, but we're talking league minimum money here. Zach Wood is getting the job done so far at LS.
Didn't feel the need to start a new thread, so I'll put this here. A good take on the Saints after the Lions game from GMFB. The Saints segment is from the beginning of the clip to the 2:42 mark.
Yea, CSP would probably have to go like 3-13 to be moved with that contract. The funny thing is that Benson probably thinks Loomis runs the show & not CSP, b/c Loomis is the guy that reports to Benson due to the fact that he's the GM.
